I was wondering if I can use typekit w/o the Design Upgrade in WordPress?
Because the actual service of typekit is free (for two fonts on one site) and since the site is for a (non-profit) scout club I can't spend money. I don't have the css Upgrade either...
is there any possibility to get fonts (other than the standard theme fonts) on wordpress for free?

Typekit was free on WordPress.com blogs. But after this announcement, it has been included to the new Custom Design Upgrade. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/new-upgrade-custom-design/
Now you can't use those free fonts on WordPress.com. More info is available at above link.
Ah ok, so they made it easier to use for unexperienced users, but eliminated the free access? That is too bad, thank you for your answer.
The people using Typekit fonts before this notice are still using those.
