unable to log in at http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula

  1. My login is not accepting my user name bluescat48 at http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula
whereas it accepts it at the other sites.

  2. Sorry, that site is self-hosted and you need to head over to the WordPress.org forums as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.

If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document.

  3. Since that site is self-hosted, your wordpress.COM username will not work with it. Self-hosted wordpress sites are not in anyway connected to wordpress.COM.

  4. I subscribe to a site, http://pk4a.com/blog/2012/01/medical-team-arrives-in-freetown/ which requires log in to comment.
Do you realize that there is no way for a person without a wordpress.org blog to comment on one of these sites?
This is very restrictive, and limits the worth of the self-hosted sites, since conversation can only occur within a very exclusive group, that is, other wordpress.org bloggers.

  6. @armsopenwide

Comments are controlled by the site owner - they have decided to restrict who can leave comments - it is not related to WordPress.ORG at all - it is just the pk4a people don't want many comments - all the blogs here can be set the same way if the blog owner wants to -

Well, either get one or don't comment. If he's set his comments this way, there's not much you can do about it. This is why I've never commented on Will Wheaton's site.
