Unable to Publicize through Facebook

  1. When i'm clicking on the Publicize option a new browser tab opens with the verifying link to Facebook, but the page remains blank. Nothing appers and nothing refreshed, no traffic what so ever between the page and neither wordpress' server nor facebook's nor any other server. The page in that tab is just simply blank with nothing going on in it.
I'm using Xubuntu linux 10.04 OS and Firefox 4 browser. I already disabled all add-ons in case one of them might originate the problem, but nothing changed.

The blog I need help with is atheisms.wordpress.com.

  2. I am having this same problem and have been since yesterday.

    http://seasweetie.wordpress.com

    I'm using IE.

WordPress just keeps asking me to verify.

  3. @atheisms
I'm sorry you are experiencing this issue but do know have a solution for it and the support link for Staff has been deactivated. Others who had trouble used RSS Graffitti with success so perhaps it will work for you as well. http://apps.facebook.com/rssgraffiti/RSS Graffiti.

  4. @seasweetie
Which version of IE are you using please? Have you used Publicize with success previously? If so then reconnecting may solve this issue.

  5. @timethief
I tried RSS Graffitti as you suggested.
I got the following content on FaceBook:
    Error
Error while loading page from RSS Graffiti
    Empty response received.

  6. @atheisms
We seem to have reached the point where you need to contact Staff. However, the support link has been deactivated. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.

  7. When I disconnected Facebook and WordPress on each site and then reconnected, it started working again.

  8. @seasweetie
Thanks for letting us know this has been resolved for you. Happy blogging! :)

  9. @seasweetie
    @timethief

I also tried reconneting and it didn't work for me.
I guess I'll just be waiting for the staff's attetion.

    Thanks :)

  10. There are two places that you can actually do the disconnect/re-connect on our end: My Blogs and Settings -> Sharing in your Dashboard.

If you tried My Blogs earlier, please try again but via Settings -> Sharing.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-facebook

  11. Check your RSS feed and confirm that it's working. Some blogs are having difficulties with the RSS feed.

  12. @macmanx
The first instruction is "Log into your WordPress.com blog. Go to your blog’s dashboard -> My Blogs and uncheck Facebook under Publicize." so I went to my blog's dashboard but I have there nothing of the sort. I only got "Recent Drafts", "Right Now", "Recent Documents", "Stats", "Your Stuff", "Incoming links", "What's Hot" and "QuickPress".

  13. It's Dashboard->Settings->Sharing.

Settings is one of the icons on the far left-hand side.

I just found "Feedbacks". Jesus Christ I have people who wanted to register for my workshops, only that was back in January and I just found out about it. Did I miss some major posting or something? Because I don't think those "Feedbacks" ever fed out to me.

  14. I don't see any "Settings" in Dashboard however what I did find is that in My Blogs Facebook is marked for sharing but it also says "To enable Publicize: Facebook, you will need to authorize your WordPress.com account on Atheisms to connect with your Facebook account. Clicking the link below will take you to Facebook where you will need to log in and click “allow” several times." so I clicked the link and I got the same black page I talked about earlier.

I thaught maybe the problem is with Facebook so I tried it again after logging out from WordPress and Facebook, deleting all passwords, hitory, cache and coockies from the browser and quiting the brower.
After that I logged back into WordPress and tried the link without logging in first to Facebook. I got the loggin page in Facebook as I should so I logged in as I'm suppose to and the page was redirecting to the api key link as it should, but then it went blank like usual.

  15. *thought, of course (-:

  16. Settings is in your dashboard. It's one of the icons in the column on the far left of the blog. If you're not the blog Admin, however, you won't see it.

  17. Ohh now I see it. Sorry I thought you meant it was suppose to appear somewhere in the area where Recent Drafts and Right Now etc appear.

I now tried diconnecting through Settings -> Sharing and then reconnecting to Facebook as you explained but alas, no success. I got the same non-communicating blank page.

  18. @jennifer That explains why I suddenly got emails from the "wrong" blog. What it doesn't explain is why the contact form went in last year and I've only been getting these for a few weeks.

  19. atheisms, in that case please contact us via support@wordpress.com so we can dig a bit deeper.

raincoaster, The feedbacks are filtered through Akismet before being sent out, so they may have been caught as spam. If not, please contact us via support@wordpress.com

  20. I had also lost my connections since yesterday, although it said connected!

I went back to sharing settings and disconnected and then reconnected both Facebook and Twitter and it now all seems to work fine!

  21. My problem is stil unsolved. It's kind of unique and I already contacted the Staff via the Email lest here, and if all others so far got their answers, I guess this thread can be closed/locked/whatever you do with them here :-)

  22. @atheisms-If you do get a staff reply that could benefit others with the same problem, please feel free to post it here. Thanks!

  23. @justjennifer, OK :)

  24. My blog's not posting to Facebook either now unless i do it automatically. I don't use Publicize, I use Networked Blogs, and this seems to indicate there's an RSS problem.

  25. RC, it looks like your feed is valid. Unfortunately, given that everything is working properly on our end, there's little that we can do about Networked Blogs.

I'm a bit confused on the Publicized bit, are you saying that is definitely not working for you?

  26. I used these directions. They were easy and they worked. Thanks @macmanx!

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-facebook

  27. You're welcome!

  28. Could problems have anything to do with the type of Facebook account (personal vs business vs "website or blog" etc)? This isn't working for me and the instructions don't match what I see online. Support still seems to be unavailable.

  29. I think iwilkerson might have a point. Following the instuctions give by ddkurcfeld works IF, and ONLY IF your facebook account is of "personal profile" type. If it is "website" type (as in our case), you never get past the FB login page to get to allowing WP services.

So, again, this point more to a FB problem.
