Unable to submit posts to digg

  1. Every time I try to submit a post from my blog to digg, it comes back with the following error:
This link does not appear to be a working link. Please check the URL and try again.
I've searched this forum and site and used google to search globally. This problem seems quite common and is attributed to a setting in the Bad Behavior plugin. Those with a WP.org blog can simply make the necessary edits and the problem goes away. But what the heck am I supposed to do? Highly aggravating!

  2. Are you using the GetSocial button on your blog to do it? If so, it looks like the title of your latest blog post repeats twice in the link to all the social networks, not just Digg.

  3. If your using get social you could be using a older version
because that problem has be fixed in the current version...

You can find a download link that the DEV provided that will
download the current version of get social...

Link » How To Use Get Social For WordPress.com (social bookmark bar)

  4. Typo correction

    GetSocial,

Link is in the above entry

  5. teck-at first I thought so too, but not all his links are borked, only the last two entries on the front page. Always best to have the latest version! (But still waiting to hear from donnybahama if that's how the posts were submitted to Digg...)

  6. Hi, I'm Hillel, the author of GetSocial.

I've visited your blog and your problem seems to originate from the permalink that you are feeding to GetSocial. I bet you've copied the permalink from the editor – because there is a bug (in WordPress)there that will create wrong permalinks with duplicate post title.

In order to fix the problem:
Regenerate the Social Bookmarking buttons for the affected posts, and copy the permalink from the address bar and not from the editor.

    Good Luck,
    Keep us posted :)

  7. Thanks for the responses, everyone. (For some reason I wasn't notified of them, though I checked the box to be so.)

I've noticed the munging of the url by GetSocial. I thought I had the most recent version but will check on that.

In response to the primary question, it does not matter how I submit it to digg. I have tried clicking the permalink, going to the address bar, copying the url, then pasting it into digg. That's as error-free as it gets. I've even tried using one of the many url compressors then pasting the shortened url into digg. Same results no matter what I do.

  8. Try using the dedicated Digg button from WP.com:

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/22/how-do-i-digg/

Or just go to Digg.com and follow the instructions from there.

  9. Thanks so much for the response, Hillel. (And for GetSocial!) Good to know about the WP bug. I had, in fact, recently begun using the permalink as provided in the editor (seemed logical - saves a bit of time.) I'm now in the process of checking each post and regenerating the GetSocial code as necessary.

Unfortunately, that's not my main problem.

The post I'm trying to submit to digg (and have been for a few days now) is the "Happy Birthday, CD" post. I've verified the GetSocial links and even tried submitting the permalink manually but it just won't go. If anyone wants to try it, (via the GetSocial links or otherwise,) please feel free.

  10. Please give us a direct link to that post, starting with http.

  11. @donnybahama-It must be something specific to that post if it is the only one that you are having trouble with. I've experimented on a couple of my own posts by using the GetSocial buttons to submit them to Digg and didn't encounter the error you mentioned at the top of this thread.

And as rain said, please give us the direct link so we can look.

  12. Thanks, justjennifer! I actually hadn't tried to submit other posts, so I did - and they worked. That made me reexamine the post in question... Turns out the title was rather long, ergo the permalink as well. I edited the permalink and - - problem solved!

    Thanks for the help everyone!

  13. Hey, happy ending! I like those. :) Glad you figured out what wasn't working. Cheers!
