Unable to upload a video from flickr
-
Hello,
I would like to upload a video from flickr to my blog. This is my video.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/109861645@N04/14509450642/I tried the wordpress instruction at http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/flickr-video/. I tried both shortcode and long code.
But I did not get a video uploaded on to the blog. But I got a black box. This wordpress instruction omits something. “Embed” code?
What is it?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Can you please check to make sure that your video is not hidden from public searches? (Videos that are hidden from public searches can’t be embedded here at WordPress.com.) Flickr has instructions for checking and changing that setting here:
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr/hide-unhide-photos-public-searches-sln7390.html?impressions=true
If the video isn’t hidden from public searches and it’s still not working in your blog, please let me know so I can keep investigating this for you. :)

Hi there,
Hiding a video from the public is different from hiding a video from public search. (A video can be visible to the public but still hidden from searches.) That black box usually appears when the video is hidden from searches.
Can you please double check that setting? You can change the search permissions from your Flickr Organize page here:
-
Hello,
It has not been hidden from public searches. There is no check in the box stating “Hidden from public search.”
I still see a black box.
-
It seems this person has the same unsolved problem.

Can you please try resaving the setting in that box that says “Hidden from public search”? I tested it out and noticed that Flickr won’t necessarily put a check in that box, even if the video is hidden from searches, but resaving that setting will fix it.
Please give that a try and let me know if the problem continues. :)
-
I resaved it. I saw “Thanks” message from Flickr. Then I went back to WordPress.com, did WordPress instruction, but I still see the black box. I feel this problem is related to the code “<object type= . . . .>, which I can obtain from Flickr’s “share” button. Don’t we have to insert this code in wordpress, too? WordPress instruction is silent about this.

Nope, you don’t need to use any of the embed code from Flickr. The code described on the Flickr Video support page is all you need, and it looks like this:
[flickr video=http://www.flickr.com/photos/chaddles/2402990826]
Can you send me a link to the page where you are getting the black box? I’d like to take a closer look at it for you.

-
Thanks. Everything looks ok at that link, so it looks like another setting on Flickr may be interfering with the video embed.
Could you also take a look at your Flickr account settings here:
https://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/optout/
Please make sure the boxes under “Your Photos” are unchecked on that page. (If those boxes are checked, it may take some time after unchecking them for your video embed to start working.)
If that still doesn’t resolve the issue, please let me know.

Thanks for checking — I’m sorry this isn’t resolved yet. Everything I can see on our end looks ok, but I’ve asked our team to investigate this further to try to figure out what’s going wrong with this video. I’ll you know once I have an update from them about this.

I uploaded a different video on Flicker and tried to upload it on my wordpress.com blog. But the same problem happened again. I saw only a black box. Below is a link to a different video at Flickr. So I don’t think this is a specific video file problem.
I use Google Chrome for my browser. I tried Internet Explorer. The same problem occurs. Short code Long code. The same. No difference.
-
Thanks for letting me know about that. Other Flickr video embeds are working so it isn’t a problem with all Flickr videos, but there might be something going on with your Flickr account that’s causing the problem. I’m passing this information along to our team so they can consider that when they investigate the issue.

Thanks for letting me know! I’m glad that video embed worked. It sounds like something specific to those videos is keeping them from being embedded properly.
If you’d like, I can keep investigating that for you. In that case, please let me know as much as possible about those videos and how they were created and saved. :)

Youtube video worked. But Flicker video does not work with wordpress.com. I’d like you to continue investigating why Flicker video does not work with wordpress.com. I created video with a digital camera.
-
Oh, I see. I’m sorry, I misunderstood your last message about the YouTube video. I’d be happy to keep investigating the Flickr issue for you.
On the Flickr account settings page I mentioned before:
https://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/optout/
Are any of the boxes on that page checked?
Also, what is the file format of the videos you uploaded to Flickr?
