unsolicited comments

  1. I get a lot of comments that are definitely not for me. The comments and/or responses refer to things pertaining to either WordPress itself or some other Blog within WordPress. How can I filter these out and get only responses that actually were meant for me?

The blog I need help with is gusisaac.wordpress.com.

  2. We all get spam and Akismet deals with it very well. See Unwanted Comments and Comment Spam http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

  3. The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

Spammers are becoming more inventive every day. Akismet is a learning engine. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read "5 things every blogger should know about spam" on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

  4. Thank you very much for your advise and I will do my best to figure this all out but, for the record, many of the comments I'm referring to may not be spam, they were just meant for someone else and they appeared in my blog. So does marking it as spam cause a problem for the legitimate errors or does that just tell WordPress that I don't want it?

  5. many of the comments I'm referring to may not be spam, they were just meant for someone else and they appeared in my blog.

Please provide usernames for those specific comments and I'll tag this thread for Staff to take a close look at them.

  6. I will do that the next time they appear, unfortunately I deleted them, as I always do, before I asked this question. I'm sure that there will be several of these types of comments within the next day or so.

  7. Understood and please do that.
