unused domains

  1. Hey all, not a new user but a new poster. I really like wordpress and all, but as I was trying to set up a new blog, I kept finding domain names were taken. When I went to see what the current user was doing with it, I would find that it was a name that had been created, then unused for months or (in a number of cases) years.

I don't mean unused as in they were posting then stopped, I mean they never even started posting.

Is there a way to find out who registered to the domain to contact them? Or a way to just straight up contact someone through their domain?

Thanks for the help and consideration folks.

  2. Good day to you,

There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

if you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.
