My blog is called http://www.wordrenwal.wordpress.com and I want to change to http://www.wordrenewal.com
And I have another which was successfully changed over - http://www.chirophoneticspacific.com
But when people google for it the old website that still has wordpress in it is what comes up.
The blog I need help with is chirophoneticspacific.com.
Google takes several months to catch up to URL changes sometimes.
WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites. Read this page for more information about WordPress.com and Search Engines.
Thanks for the two who replied about Google taking time to note URL changes. But I still have the problem about my blog http://www.wordrenewal.com
It has been "under construction" for over a week. I simply was trying to switch it over from http://www.wordrenewal.wordpress.com Both sites can't be accessed now.
Have tried to contact wordpress but no reply yet. Anyone know what I can do?
It looks like you may have deleted your old blog without attaching the URL to your new blog yet. Can you get to the dashboard of http://wordrenewal.wordpress.com/wp-admin at all and change where the domain is pointing?
Hi Mr Raincoaster. Thanks for your good advice. I have just changed the primary domain back to the old <wordrenewal.wordpress.com> and luckily it came back so no lasting damage has been done.
The other domain - the one I want to switch to - is still there. But maybe there was an error in setting it up. I don't know what to do next. Maybe I should cancel my payment and start over???
You have a domain mapping for wordrenewal.com . But it looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet. Please go to your domain registrar's site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

I've been given this advice before - and I also finally got a wordpress response which said:
"Your domain's name servers are still pointing to Yahoo. Can you please contact your domain registrar and have them update your name servers to point to WordPress.com, as described here:
But nowhere do I find an indication of what is my domain register. It's wordpress, isn't it? I never separately contacted any register - just signed up with wordpress. I can't see anywhere where the place is that I can contact them (or whoever I am meant to contact) and ask them to update my name server.
The instructions say:
"You can usually change your domain’s name servers at your registrar’s website, but the process is different for each domain registrar. Instructions for popular registrars are available here— if your registrar isn’t listed, visit their website or contact their support team for assistance.When a new domain is purchased or when name servers are updated, it can take some time for the change to take full effect (up to 72 hours, but normally much less)."
WHAT DO I DO IF I CAN'T FIND MY DOMAIN REGISTER? I'm sure this shows me up as clueless but I simply don't know this and can't see what to do. I don't think the instructions are very good for novices such as me. Anyone's help is appreciated as this is a problem that's gone on for a couple of weeks now and meanwhile my website is completely hidden.
I've now cancelled the upgrade. I paid $13 which brings a re-mapping which leaves me needing to change the things above. This seems to be too complicated for me and someone with me helping couldn't do it either.
Starting afresh I look for a way to pay more than $13 and purchase registration through wordpress at the same time - and yet I can't find it. Anyone know what I can do next?
We currently don't take incoming domain transfers, so it's only possible to either register a new domain at WordPress.com or map an existing domain.
The domain wordrenewal.com is registered at http://www.melbourneit.com.au/
If you want to try and map the domain again, go to Store > Domains on your blog's dashboard and follow the steps there. Make sure to log into Melbourne IT's control panel or contact their support to change the nameserver records.

I finally worked out the domain was registered to another. That probably seems elementary but to a newbie it's not. I had never seen anything that said it was - only that the domain was "under construction". There was nothing in anything I read to help a person find out what to do when they are stymied in this way.
When I learned I couldn't have the domain I used .org and the problem was solved. Thank you and the wordpress expert who have helped me on this. If anyone is able to change instructions to help one in a position such as I was in, that would be a good thing.
I am now OK but it took a long time.
