Urgent: No content showing up after import!!

    Hi,

I've tried contacting support through email and can get no help on this issue. In the past WordPress support has been incredibly prompt and helpful so I'm disappointed. Hence, I decided to try the forums!!

Here is my problem: I am trying to import an old blog from blogger onto my new wordpress.com site. When I tried it, I followed all the steps (I did it through my wordpress dashboard>tools) and it seemed liked it worked.... except no content images or comments are showing up on my wordpress site. Only the titles of the posts... the posts themselves and the comments are blank. Do you know what the problem may be? Did I miss a step?

    Here is my site: http://insideouthealthandsports.wordpress.com/
here is the site I am importing from: http://inside-out-health.blogspot.com/

If anyone could help me on this, I would sooooo appreciate it; I am trying to get my site launched by this Monday, so I'm under a bit of a time crunch. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it :)

The blog I need help with is insideouthealthandsports.wordpress.com.

  2. This is a peer support forum and we Volunteers cannot assist with your import issue. Staff do monitor these forums and I have flagged this thread for their attention.

Expecting instant service will lead to dispapointment. Please be patient while waiting.

ok, I did not know that; thank you much. I will look forward to hopefully hearing from a staff member.

Also, I have been contacting WordPress with support questions for the past two weeks as I was trying to meet my Monday deadline. So far I have not been able to receive any help whatsoever, much less instant! I always try to be patient, however this experience has been very different from my other experiences with WordPress support, where I usually got help within several days to a week. So yes, I understand they cannot respond to everyone instantly ;)

  4. Hi there, I can't find any tickets in our support queue connected to your email address or username - is there another email or username which you might have used when contacting support through the form?

Thanks for your help! Most of my support questions have been directed to support@wordpress.com and sent through my email that is connected with my WordPress site/account. That is very strange that you are not seeing them... because got a response, just not an answer to this specific question... I could forward them to you? I also contacted support through my personal email address...

*i meant to say that several of them got a response, just not an answer to this specific question.

I've been reading more on the forums [here] and it seems that I need for my blogs to be "emptied" so I can try re-importing. The blogs I am trying to import to are:
    1.) http://insideoutstyleandfashion.wordpress.com/ and
    2.) http://insideouthealthandsports.wordpress.com/.

Is there any way you could empty those for me, please? So I can try again.

  8. Hi there - I've emptied both blogs so you can try the import again. Let me know how it goes.

  9. Thanks so much Kathryn!! I really appreciate it.

But I did just notice that "emptying" means starting completely fresh... So now I am a little nervous to reformat everything and try to import again in case it messes up again! Do you have any idea of what may have been the problem in the first place, so I can do something differently? Like why it imported no content?

    Thanks again :)

    Here is some info:

Last time, I tried to import my blogger blogs by going into my WordPress.com dashboard>tools>import. It seemed like it worked fine, but when I went to check on the blog all I could see were titles - no content in the posts, images, or comments.

So this time I was going to try downloading my blogger blog as an xtml file and importing it like that, but I have a problem. When i go into my blogger dashboard>settings>other>export and click the "download blog" button, it does not download into an xtml file. Instead, a web page with all my posts pops up.... but I can't download and save that....

this is the link to the page that pops up: feed://www.blogger.com/feeds/1395417380735253479/archive

Does any of that help you maybe figure out what is wrong? Thank you so much for your time.

  11. Hi there - doing a Blogger XML file export first and then importing it into WordPress does seem to produce more consistent results than using the other method.

You may want to try asking this forum over at Blogger support - they're best placed to help with this issue:

    http://support.google.com/blogger/?hl=en

    http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/blogger

So now I am a little nervous to reformat everything and try to import again in case it messes up again!

You may want to try first getting the import sorted out. Then, once you have all the posts imported correctly in your blog, you can start the rest of the blog setup.

    Good luck!

Thanks Kathryn! I've posted twice on the Blogger forums before but so far no one has helped me.... maybe the third time will be the charm? I hope.

If not, and they are not able to help me fix the Blogger export problem... do you have any idea why the WordPress importer is not working for me? Is there any way to fix it? Or anything I can do?

Again, thank you so much for responding! I really appreciate it.

Oh my gosh. I just posted on the Blogger forum and about five minutes later I recieved this email:

Hello, Your blog at http://inside-out-health.blogspot.com/ has been reviewed and confirmed as in violation of our Terms of Service for: SPAM. In accordance to these terms, we've removed the blog and the URL is no longer accessible. For more information, please review the following resources: Blogger Terms of Service: http://blogger.com/terms.g Blogger Content Policy: http://blogger.com/go/contentpolicy -The Blogger Team

What does this mean? Why would they do that?? Does this mean all my content and years worth of work has been deleted??

They removed all my other blogs too!! I'm really upset and afraid all my work is gone...

  15. I'm so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately this is something you'll need to take up with Blogger as we can't speak for them as to why your content may have been removed.

You might try accessing your site through the Google cache.

Thanks Kathryn, I'm working to hopefully recover my content. Now I really want to move over to wordpress though!

With that in mind, one reason I was switching to WordPress was because it allows for the easy importation of other blogs. So far, that hasn't worked for me.... So if they are not able to help me fix the Blogger export problem... do you have any idea why the WordPress importer is not working for me? Is there any way to fix it? Or anything I can do?

  17. Reports from others suggest that using the Blogger XML export file does work more reliably than the alternative method. I'm not sure why you weren't getting a proper XML file from the Blogger side, but perhaps posting in their forums to ask other users might be helpful. Good luck!

Well, I am dissapointed in WordPress' importing abilities (one of the main reasons I was switching over...). Honestly, I would think that should work.

But thankfully the members of the Blogger were able to help me resolve the issue with Bloggers exporter.

    So thank you anyway.

  19. If you were able to get an XML file exported from the Blogger site, then you should now be able to import it through the WordPress side. Let us know if you have any trouble.
