URL I want is in use on an inactive blog from 2006, can I have the URL?

  1. An inactive blog from 2006 is using the URL I as hoping to use (hitpoints.wordpress.com), is there any way you can deactivate that blog so I can make use of the name?

The blog I need help with is schpweeno.wordpress.com.

  2. No - there is no requirement to use a blog here to keep it active, WordPress.COM will not take a blog away from someone for non-use

You can try contacting the blog owner and see if they will transfer the name to you

  3. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting on the blog, then providing the owner is agreeable there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

If you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.
