Username in use

  1. If the username I want is being used but the blog hasn't been touched since 2009, can you close them down and release the user name?

  2. No!

  3. There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

if you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  4. Fair enough, it was worth a try...

  5. Ok, I had a blog named rachelemme2040 which I've just deleted. I requested the my username rachelemme2040 be changed to rachellemme with a new blog address. Now I try to start using the new blog and it says that it's been deleted. I try to sign up for rachellemme but WP say that it's been taken...I'm going around in circles. Please help.

  6. I'm afraid nobody can restore a deleted blog. As all the warnings say, deletion is permanent and irreversible. If you really want that URL, I suggest you register a whatever.wordpress.com URL and then use the Custom Domain and Mapping upgrades to get rachelemme.com or .org.

  7. @raincoaster I wanted the rachelemme2040 blog deleted, that isn't a problem. I followed all of the steps requesting it to be deleted and then changing the user name to rachellemme. If you have another read of my last post, you'll see there's rachelemme2040 (with one "L") and rachellemme (with two "L"'s).

  8. rachelemme2040.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.
If you delete the blog the URL cannot be registered and used again by you or by anyone else. Deleting a blog URL is forever. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
Note that deleted blog URLs are not recycled.

  9. rachellemme.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.

  10. So why was I asked if I wanted to delete rachelemme2040? Why was I given the ability to change the name of a blog. None of this makes any sense. Please don't give me links to support pages - I've read thru them all which is why I started asking here. I really don't understand why I can login as rachellemme but can't make a blog with the same name. If rachellemme.wordpress.com has been deleted forever, why can I still login?

  11. You can still sign in because your account is not the same as your (deleted) blog. Your account cannot be deleted.

While the blog rachellemme.wordpress.com has been deleted, and the url http://rachellemme.wordpress.com goes to a page that lets everyone know that the blog has been deleted, the account itself (the name "rachellemme" along with the email address you used to claim it) is still active.

    Reusing email addresses

Every WordPress.com user account has a unique email address, so you can’t create two accounts with the same email address.

If you want to use the same email address to set up a new account and a new blog, then you'll have to transfer your "rachellemme" account to a different email address. Then you can start over with your main email address.

This is how it is explained in the support documents:

    1. Log into your current account (the one with the email you want to use).
    2. Under Users → Personal Settings, change the email address on the account. You can use any active email that you have access to. This will free up the primary email for the new account.
    3. You’ll receive an email to confirm the change. Click on the confirmation link, and log out of the account from My Account → Log Out.
    4. Sign up for a new account with the primary email address.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/#reusing-email-addresses

  12. Please note:
you won't be able to set up a blog using either
    rachelemme2040.wordpress.com
    or
    rachellemme.wordpress.com

You can continue to use the rachellemme account (the same email address) with a different blog. For example "rach3llemme.wordpress.com"

  13. how about if the username is registered long time ago but blog has never been used? any policy that could help me get the wp username that's been squatted, not used and is exactly the same I use in various other networks and domains?
