username - who owns mine?

  1. I tried to use WP to be able to leave a comment on a website that lists WP as a website (http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/) to use to make comments. It asked for my WP username, I gave it and got this message: You do not own that identity.
Well - if I don't own it who does? I used it today to sign into WP.

  2. http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/ is not a WordPress.COM site. It's a WordPress.ORG site and you need to register at that site itself for a username. It won't recognize your WordPress.com username.

  3. We do not provide support for any sites like http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/ that are not hosted by WordPress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum and we cannot help you.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  4. I am now registered with wp.org. Now I am registered and signed in with wp.com, wp.org and dallasnews. I still get this message when I try to comment on a dallasnews article using wp (which is listed as an option for leaving comments):
"You do not own that identity."
The message is coming from wp.com
    Really getting confused.

  5. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Log out of WordPress.COM and clear your browser cache and cookies.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ Then log in under your WordPress.ORG username login.

  6. Dallas News does not accept a WordPress anything ID - only - Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, Google+, Microsoft & yahoo

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/more-sports/soccer/headlines/20140712-cowlishaw-world-cup-title-game-is-big-but-what-does-it-mean-for-future-of-soccer.ece

I also doubt that anybody would use a WordPress.ORG ID for leaving comments

  7. @auxclass
    Great research. Thanks for that.

  8. You be welcome - I have ran into the ID thing a several times in the past where they required ID I don't have

  9. Logged out of WordPress.COM and cleared your browser cache and cookies and tried dallasnews again, got this message:
    "You need to sign in
You need to sign in to WordPress.com to complete this process.
You should use a bookmark or type in the address to do this. This page does not contain any links, to protect you from phishing."
    ----
I signed into .com and got this message:
"You do not own that identity."
I think dallasnews has a problem and that auxclass is right. Thanks to all of you for your help. I have given up on dallasnews!

  10. They do have a letter to the editor you can use to complain about their policy - or most sites have a website problems form

  11. FWIW, signing in to WordPress.com to leave a comment is one of the options available on that site (use the + sign), but the party to contact is of course dallasnews, not WPcom.

You must log in to post.
