using an existing domain name

  1. the domain name I want to use is currently active. How do I use it in wordpress to create a website?

    The blog I need help with is shirleycontractors.wordpress.com.

  2. "Active" - you have the domain registered somewhere or someone else has the domain in use here on WordPress.COM?

  3. If a blog name belongs to someone else, that the way it is. You can't have it.

    If the blog is inactive you can, however, write the owner at ask politely if (please) he or she feels like releasing the (user) name = hand over the blog to you. If there is contact information available, that is. If not: you are out of options.

  4. I have the same question. I have a domain registered on godaddy. How do I use it in wordpress to set up my webpage?

  5. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

    Same Rules Apply – The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required abide by our Terms of Service.

  6. We registered our domain name 3-4 years ago. We tried to pay for the renewal in 2009 and there was a problem with paying it and I don't know that it got renewed. How can we check? Can we still keep it? Where do I go from here?

  7. You can do a whois domain name search.

  8. Hi i really need help. I just purchased my domain name anndaphne.com here in wordpress successfully but apparently i am still not able to use it.I am not really and IT so im not familiar.i need help :) thanks

  9. @anndaphne

    but apparently i am still not able to use it.

    I don't know what you think you need help with. It can take up to 72 hours for a domain name change to propagate throughout the internet. The good news is that I am in Canada and the link is directing correctly to your domain for me already.
