    Hello,
I was thinking of switching to the Motif theme and am interested in trying the Grid page layout. How does this work? Can you pick and choose what you see in the grids? Id love to try this on the team page or the Fringe University page

    my site is http://www.fringeparanormal.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is fringeparanormal.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi there!
I must say I'm not a big fan of the grid stuff but I'm currently using the Motion theme and I didn't find any live option related. By the way, since this awesome theme (a huge thank you to automattic ;) hasn't been added (yet) to http://en.blog.wordpress.com/category/themes/, it would be great to get some information about the grid option: maybe this is only available with a customization upgrade or something :-?

  3. Oop! sorry, Motif!, not Motion, pfff (being distracted is not an option, it's a maouz fact :o)

  4. one little step further... I found a grid template in the pages options but i have no clue how this works :p

  5. I found at least one person who could tell you how that works, since their blog has an active grid template set onto a parent page (but also a custom css upgrade), unfortunately I'm not fluent in english, so it's difficult for me to ask them how they've done. If you're still interested, here is the thread:

  6. So the only thing you need to do is creating the grid page as a parent page, and then assign child pages, each one with a featured image etc...
    cf support http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/motif
The grid page template is ideal for showcasing your products, presenting your team members, or displaying your portfolio items.
The grid page template shows the title, featured image, and excerpt of each of its child pages. For best results, use excerpts when you create the page content.

    VoilĂ  ;)

  9. I have this theme now and like it except I cannot get the grid page to work, any help? and yes, I am selecting grid as the page attribute but it wont work for me!
    Can anyone help please

  10. i solved the grid thing by making sure there was a featured image for each child category.

  11. Hello!

I have grid pages set up, and they look great. Only problem is the featured images are getting cut off. I tried to change the size (in wordpress image editor) with no luck. I have images of headless people. Very sad. :(

    Thanks!

    Alison

  12. Alison,
I can't find a page where the grid is working on my site..in the interim, you can create a gallery for a page and place a link to the full post by placing the link in the "caption" box when you add the images. I find that this shows the whole pic.
Hope that is an idea you could consider.
    an example is this..http://natureguild.wordpress.com/topics/edible/cakes/
I also name the photo in the caption,as the first bit of text and then paste the link

  13. I need some really basic help, just get me started I think (it's been a long time since I built a WordPress site). Morettino has his/her site looking just like the Motif theme sample page http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/motif/ but I can't seem to figure out where to put the "Morettino bed and breakfast" text (or "Motif" text in the theme sample); also where to put the "the best b&b in Venice" text (or "a crisp, minimalist and..." text)? I made the name of my static full width page "1344 Main Road Westport, MA Vacation Rental" but it doesn't look right. I also added the image into the page content; should I have instead set it as a "featured image"?

Once I get that basic look squared away, I want the gallery/grid approach that natureguild uses in http://natureguild.wordpress.com/topics/edible/cakes/, with my grid showing "the house," "the beaches," "eat and drink<\," etc. (or maybe those are better put up in the black bar where "Home," "Shop," "Blog," etc. is on natureguild's cake blog (I can't figure out how to create that black box either.)

    Thanks in advance!!

  14. see how rusty I am?? I wrote links as code instead of links!! Someone please help me!!

  15. Hopefully fixed here:

  16. Hey everyone using Motif Theme,
I've spent a little time trying to get the best out of the theme for my needs. Djeddieo, I've sent an email to you but thought I'd show here what my instructions were so someone else may also benefit..

For that part on my home page that shows cakes etc titled"take a peek"
You need to make a widget. Go to Dashboard>Appearance>widgets. Ok now drag a "top posts and Pages" Widget to your "second footer sidebar" Edit the fields. Title - I called mine "take a peek". Nominate how many posts to show. While I was looking at mine, I changed it to show 4 maximum number of posts to show, I think that'll look better than 2 which is what I had when you saw it. Also make sure you tick the box"display as image grid.
