Vertigo theme -- move widgets at the bottom to the side

  1. Hi! I'd like to move the widgets (Recent Posts, Twitter, Search) to the right side of the the page. Is that possible?
    Thanks!
    -Karen

    The blog I need help with is artinmyeye.wordpress.com.

  2. Before I can work with your site, could you please go to settings > reading and set your site to show at most 3 posts per page. I'm on a slow wireless internet service and gave up on your site loading after a full minute.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I will tell you right now, that this is a pretty major project due to the way that this theme is designed and adjustments have to be made to tons of stuff.

  4. You might be able to do it without too much trouble if you use floats.

    Try starting with:

    #main {
         float: left;
         width: 700px;
    }

    .entry-info {
        width: 180px;
    }

    .format-standard .container {
         background: none;
         padding: 0px 30px 0px 200px;
    }

    #supplementary {
         border: none;
         padding: 35px 0px 0px;
    }

    Be careful when adjusting widths. For example, if you change the ".entry-info" width you should also change the left padding (the last number) in ".format-standard .container".

    The format for padding is:

    padding: top right bottom left;

  5. Thanks for your help! I just changed it to show 3 posts per page -- didn't know I could do that! I really like the way this theme looks, but it doesn't seem to be all that flexible. Are there others that are easier to work with, that I could at least practice a little bit on? HTML, CSS (and wordpress and blogging) are all new to me.
    Thanks!

  6. Twenty Eleven is a nice, responsive design theme and a good starting point. But I also really think it depends on your end goal and how much you'd like to change the theme you pick as your starting point.

    Did you try looking at the feature filters (the button on the right side) in the theme showcase?

  7. I did, thanks -- and thanks for the suggestion!
