Videos not crunching as advertised

  1. Trying to upload videos. Successfully arrive at the "this video is being processed" stage and then...nada.

    They never get processed.

They are .mov files. Using Mac OSC 10.7.5 and Chrome 22.0.1229.94.

    Thanks for any help.

The blog I need help with is greetingsfromtheemptynest.wordpress.com.

  2. Do you have the videopress upgrade? If not, you'll need that to be able to upload videos here. The alternative is to embed via Youtube or similar.

  3. Yes, I do have it. Sorry, should have included that in the first post.

  4. Okay, I'll modlook this so that someone else can help you then.

  5. Thanks!

  6. Hi Anna,

I'll be happy to take a closer look. Have you edited the the .mov files?

If so, can you try uploading the original files?

  7. Hi Bryan:
I didn't edit them. Took them with my iPhone. Transferred them to iPhoto. Then exported them in "Original" to the Movies section of my desktop. Pulled them from there to try and upload them to WP.
    Thanks.

  8. What version of iOS and iPhoto are you using?

Can you try using Image Capture to copy the movie file to your desktop, then upload that one?

  9. iOS 6.0
    iPhoto 9.3.2
Never used Image Capture. When I opened it, it seemed to want to be connected to a camera or a scanner...
    Thanks.

  10. Oh, I think I see what you are getting at but the movies are no longer on my phone. Only on iPhoto - and my desktop.

I'm having the same problem and no-one seems to be answering.

  12. I'm hoping Bryan went home for the weekend and will return soon to help us out.

  13. Are you also trying to get your videos out of iPhoto?

  14. technicalcopywriter

no, just uploading videos ... and then nothing happens!

  15. What format are they in?

Pretty much! I'm back in action now. :-)

In iPhoto, with the video file selected, can you go to File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original File, then upload that file?

@technicalcopywriter — I'll reply to your thread here:

  18. Tried that. Still not working.

  19. Would upload screenshots of the process if I could...

  20. Tried that. Still not working.

What browser and version are you using?

Can you try uploading the video using the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox?

You can download the latest version here:

Would upload screenshots of the process if I could...

Are you not able to upload images, either?

  21. Here's a strange thing. The "Masters" files of my movies seem not to be accessible when I try to import them to WP. For some reason (could it be that the iPhoto library in question is on an external hard drive?) is greyed out when I try to access it via the WP uploader...Thoughts?

  22. Alas, already using the latest version of Chrome so that's not it. Yes, images are uploading just fine.

I just meant it doesn't look like I can upload screenshots to this thread....

  23. Hmm. What's weird is that now I am not even getting the "this video is being processed" ...

Ah, that could explain it. You would need to plug in the external hard drive if that's where the original video file is located.

it doesn't look like I can upload screenshots to this thread

When you upload the image to your Media Library, you can click the Edit link for the uploaded image, then copy and paste the File URL here.

already using the latest version of Chrome so that's not it.

    How about Mozilla Firefox?

What's weird is that now I am not even getting the "this video is being processed"

Hmm, what's the Media URL in your dashboard?

Also, what's your internet connection speed (download and upload)?

    http://speedtest.net/

  25. Oddly, the external hard drive IS plugged in.

Not sure what the "Media URL" is.

    Download speed 8.07 Mbps
    Upload speed 1.78 Mbps

    Will try firefox.

  26. Thanks for checking your connection speed.

Oddly, the external hard drive IS plugged in.

In a Finder window, is the external hard drive displayed under Devices?

Not sure what the "Media URL" is.

When you click one of the media files you've uploaded in Media -> Library, you'll be taken to the Edit Media screen.

    e.g. https://greetingsfromtheemptynest.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media.php?attachment_id=402&action=edit

From there, you can copy–paste the File URL so we can see the screenshot, or you can just copy the URL to the Edit Media screen (if you only want staff to see the screenshot).

  27. Ok, well, I switched to Firefox and the correct iphoto library with the Masters was not greyed out so I uploaded the file and...same old same old. Will now go upload the screenshot of what I see...

    Thanks.

  28. At least I THINK that is what you are asking for...

  29. Thanks for your reply and the screenshot. I thought you were seeing an error in the upload process, but I'm glad to see that wasn't the case.

Can you open the video in QuickTime Player, then in the File menu, go to Export to -> Web, and try to upload the resulting file?

(Which iPhone did you use to record the video?)
