I have set up a blog, but what do I have to do to enable others to find my blog. When I type the address [email redacted], I get nothing except a message that the blog is empty?

That's probably because your blog IS empty. Perhaps you should try adding posts to it!!

There is no @ in a WordPress.COM blog address. You deleted the Hello World Post. You need to add some content to give people a reason to follow your blog.
You can also add the subscribe by email Widget to your sidebar to allow people to be sent an email when you add a new Post to your blog.
Dashboard >> Appearance > Widgets >> drag and drop the Subscribe (or what ever it is called) Widget into the Sidebar
