Viewing/sorting posts by topic AND type: Tags AND categories?

  1. I am trying to create a private wordpress site for filing my online research findings.

The aim is to very quickly save links to web pages containing information of interest in an automatic filing system.

I have done this by creating posts which each contain a hyperlink to the webpage with a bit of blurb describing what the web page contains.

Each post is placed under categories and subcategories (some fit into more than one) and used a theme which displays these categories on the home page.

However, I want to organise posts further by TYPE of post. I.e. after you click on the category, you are then given the option to narrow posts down further into:

    - posts linking to research papers
    - posts linking to news articles
    - posts linking to blogs
    - posts linking to general information or miscellanous

I have tried to do this using tags for post type, e.g. 'research' 'news' 'blog' 'misc'

But when you click on a tag, it takes you to ALL the posts with that tag, e.g. all 'research' posts, rather than all 'research' posts in your chosen category.

Any ideas? I am completely new to wordpress btw!
