Vigilance vs Twenty Ten

  1. I've been toying with these two themes for the past couple of days and was wondering what are their pros and cons.

Which one do you prefer and why?

The blog I need help with is scentforthought.wordpress.com.

  2. I like Vigilance because it's moderately customizable, very clean, has the Alert box, and I already know how it works so I don't have to learn Twenty Ten.

  3. The bottom line, is which feature set meets your needs?

Exactly and that's what we have been exploring in a series of changing themes posts on my blog.

  5. Hello: nicrobliz,
I recommend setting up a test blog and set the blog to private so you can only see the blog Then import your main blog content into the test blog then you will be able to play around with the themes and be able to visually see how the theme will look on your main blog without affecting your main blog.

My first post in the changing theme series provides a tutorial on setting up a mirror blog for theme testing purposes > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/19/how-to-select-a-wordpress-com-theme-part-1/
The second one in the series is focused on theme features > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/21/select-a-wordpress-com-theme-2/

  7. Hey everyone,

Thanks for your input. It's funny but the test blog came to mind moments before I read the replies here. I suppose there's so much to take in, for a newbie blogger, that the brain can be a bit slow at times!

Anyway, after messing around with my test blog, I've realised that I still prefer the Vigilance theme. One of the features I love about it is the fact that only the post titles are listed when a category is selected - other themes largely list an excerpt of the text and even the photos used. Personally, I prefer the 'menu' look as this blog is more of a reference blog than a diary blog.

However, there are a couple of reservations I have about the theme (though not as pressing as the issues I had with Twenty Ten). Is there anywhere on this forum (or even anyone) where I can get these 'issues' addressed?

    Many thanks.

Waving Back @TT The avatar is a scanned 3D version of my wifes face from a image of her so I decided to upload it as my avatar.

  9. @slik
A ha! that explains why I am looking at a female avatar. :)
