Getting the loading message "waiting to use.typekit.com" for the last half hour or so. Index page to the blog won't load.

One of the drawbacks of using web fonts. If there is an issue with the web font service or servers then no fonts. It should though, after a certain period, cancel that and go back to the standard theme fonts till the connection is reestablished I would think.
