Check godaddy.com to see if the domain is available. It will give you alternative choices if it isn't.

if it's for your blog here at wp.com, you can pay the extra 5 bucks on top of the ten for hosting the domain and staff will buy it for you through Tucows.
I wouldn't trust godaddy for a large number of reasons starting with their lack of support and their policy of if someone send fake spam under your domain name (Called a joejob in internet terms) they get the rights to your domain and you'll basically screwed out of it.

I didn't know about that. I have seen them recommended based on pricing, but I have never actually used them myself. I prefer Netfirms.
Netfirms processes all domain purchases by hand. (or at least they used to) Last time I had a domain through them, it took 3 days for them to act on it.
Their 24/7 support is only for sales. Their technical department only is staffed for 8 hours and not at all on the weekends. Ditto on management.
