want to put hit counter and google adsense

  1. I am new on WordPress. I created blog on WordPress Server (not on my personal site). Though it provides site stats near dashboard, i want to put hit counter on my blog. I also want to put google adsense in my site. How can i put that ?

Can somebody will guide me ?

Where i can paste code of hitcounter and google adsense to make this things visible on my site ?

My menu shows DASHBOARD upto OPTIONS. It doesnot show any Plugins. How i can use Plugins.

  2. Dude Marc,

You still didn't answer readgujurati's question (and now my own).

In my admin section, it also just shows dashboard, write, manage, links, presentation, users, options, and import. There is no menu for "plugins." In fact, no where in my admin page does it say the word, "plugins."

Why is this? Why don't I have a menu for "plugins" and how am I supposed to get one to install some of my favorite plugins?

I'd appreciate any answers and suggestions.

    Thanks.

This thread talked about sitemeter...hope that helps. I don't think we have plugin capability on wordpress.com.

If you read through the great big pink sticky at the top (NOT the upgrade one!), you'll get the answers to those questions. Besides which, had you read the links to which marc directed you, you would have ALREADY had the answers, palydebate.

  5. I never understand why people feel the need to be condescending in this forum. Obviously they could have read the FAQs, but I didn't mind adding a link, and it probably only took marc a second - a second which he didn't choose to use to make a mean comment. can't we all just get along?

Hmmm ... two links that take the questioner directly to the answers requested is "mean?" Not by my definition but obviously yours. Not to mention niether the links nor my response were directed at you.

Now if you desire to see "mean"... I can accomodate, but I prefer not to. And BTW when you have been around awhile and answered the very same questions dozens of times it becomes more than tiresome, hence the brevity.(And the pink sticky)

The other option would be to ignore the already asked and answered questions. Which would you like?

  7. Surely not answering the questions would resolve that particular issue. Or perhaps martyrdom suits you...

  8. Um, marc? lelyons pointed out you didn't make a mean comment in your initial response. She was praising you, not having a go. Her remarks seemed to me to be directed at VC, and maybe palydebate as well.

Yes, we all get exasperated when people don't read the FAQs, but I'm trying to bear in mind that not everyone here has English as a first language. They may not be able to deal with anything longer or more complicated than 'there are no plugins at wordpress.com', and that's why they come and ask the question yet again. Heck, I know I'd have trouble negotiating a support forum in a foreign language.

These are the responses I consider condescending - and I see them all the time. Thanks Wank for clarifying, and thanks Marc for pasting those links. That is the type of response I consider helpful (as you can see by the comment below).

and it probably only took marc a second - a second which he didn't choose to use to make a mean comment

Sorry you read what I wrote and thought it was directed at you. And Wank is right - not everyone hear speaks English as their first language or for that matter is familiar with blogging.

  10. Hey Guys (and Gals),

    1) I honestly did not mean to sound condescending and 2) I did read the FAQ in the big pink sticky at the top and saw something about not having plugins on wordpress at this time.

That said, I was confused and still am confused as to why wordpress has links to a bunch of plugins and why there are so many plugins available if no one can use them.

This page, http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins especially threw me off because it talks a lot about installing and using plugins and even includes a picture of a wordpress admin page where there is a menu for "plugins."

Again, I don't mean so sound condescending, I mean to sound ignorant.

Please do clarify this for me.

    Thank you in advance.

  11. palydebate: The reason that link threw you off is because it does not relate to WordPress.COM. That Codex is for the stand-alone self-hosted version of WordPress available through WordPress.org. The Multi-user version of WordPress provided free or charge at WordPress.COM does not yet support plug-ins.

  12. Ahhh!

Thank you talkingbase for clearing that up. I appreciate your help and the help from all others.

    Thanks.

    Edit:

Someone can close this forum now.

  13. Actually the difference between WP.com and WP.org is covered in the FAQ.

edit: Note that Plugins are also covered already in the FAQ. I was going to put it in there now but I see I already did. (I thought I had.)

My issue is most of the questions I answer here (I'd say about 90% of them) would be answered either by a simple search by the asker or is already answered in the FAQ. That's how I find the answers. :) Also there seems to be a great many questions asked that could be answered by having the asker just try the method they propose. (ie the "Can I do this?" questions.)

Please remember I do semi-professional webhosting. I do not get anything out of helping you folks. (Not even BBQ sauce!) I don't mind helping you folks but I seriously think most of you folks should be helping yourselves and I don't see that happening.

Now, if you all want to sign up for my "Soccer Mom" account, I charge $19.95 a month. All you do is send me an email and we do everything for you. Scan pictures, make posts, chnage themes, etc. Have about 50 of them out of 2,200....
