   I started a blog as a public blog so that I could share it with friends and invite them to sign up to follow. I then later made it private so I could share personal content.
   All my invited users switched from 'followers' to 'viewers'. But they only appear in a list where it says 'invite new users' and in the Followers list in stats. They are not receiving email updates for new posts.
   Is there anyway of changing settings so these people will now receive email updates without asking them to sign up again?

   yes, put on a subscribe widget to your blog, and get users to subscribe,so that they will receive yor posts

   Once you make a formerly public site private, that connection is broken. They will have to sign up again to receive email notifications, as catezapp mentioned.
