I have a link from my web site http://www.gwpics.com to my blog but (using Google Chrome) when I link to it I get a warning message saying it is probably the wrong place and I may want to go back. This is obviously putting people off the link.

You have https in the link (secure) - try changing it to plain http
I’m sorry to report that you have accidentally posted to the wrong support forum. We cannot help you here at WordPress.com with that site as it’s not being hosted by WordPress.com and we run on different software. This is the correct forum for your software http://wordpress.ORG/support/

@TT - the site they linked to seems to be some sort of Photo site not a WordPress.ORG site and the problem they had was the link back to their WordPress.COM blog -
