Are you talking about the abstract image you see associated by your username here?
If so, that's a Gravatar: http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/gravatars/
On the other hand, there's a little icon next to the URL in the address bar of the browser. That's called a Blavatar: http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/
Each of those links will explain how to customize the associated image, if you wish to do so.
