What do I do when I receive a trackback?

  1. I just learned what a trackback is and I understand that when you receive a trackback, your blog has been mentioned somewhere. The trackback I received ended up in my spam folder and I am wondering... what do I do with it? What happens when I take it out of my spam and allow it to be a normal reaction to my post?

The blog I need help with is pinchofpunch.wordpress.com.

  2. If I get a trackback in my spam folder that is where it stays. Have a look at the name of the thing that tracked back to you. It is probably some kind of spammy sounding site.

Legitimate pingbacks from other WP accounts who have linked to one of your posts rarely make it to spam, I have never had one turn up there.

I expect that allowing one of these trackbacks would be the same as allowing a spam comment through.

  3. Thank you metan1, for your answer. I have deleted the trackback entirely. You were right, the site had a really spammy sounding name.

  4. Hi there,
Akismet is so accurate (99.78% accuracy rate) that I merely scan the pages very quickly. Since August 2007 there have only been 25 false positives and 126 missed spam. This may be helpful >

    good day to you :)

  6. Hi Timethief,
Thank you for your article, it's very helpful! Unfortunately I already have approved 2 or 3 comments out of my spam folder... I will delete them immediately and will be more careful in the future.
