What is my FTP Username and Domain for Filezilla?

  1. Greetings,

I've tried typing in "ftp://kinandink.com" for my domain but I do not know what I'm supposed to type into the username and password section.

How do I find out what they are? Are they the same as my WordPress username and password?

Also, should I be typing in "ftp://kinandink.wordpress.com" into the domain instead?

The blog I need help with is kinandink.com.

  2. When Filezilla says "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server" what am I doing wrong?

  3. Also, I believe that WordPress is the host of my domain. I get the impression, from other threads of a similar nature, that this piece of information is significant.

Yes it is - WordPress.COM does not allow FTP access - security issues

  5. Ah, so what should I do if I want to enable FTP whilst retaining my domain name (if I have to transfer my blog over to an independent service)?

  6. How do I transfer the TNG plugin (see here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tng-wordpress-plugin/) on my blog if Filezilla cannot transfer files onto WordPress?

You cannot use wordpress.com via FTP and install plugins. In order to use the plugins, you will have to move to a self-hosted WordPress install.

  8. How do I sign up to a self-hosted WordPress install?

It's not something you sign up for. You have to export your blog out of wordpress.com, install WordPress 3.4.x on your domain through your hosting provider, and then import the file you exported out of wordpress.com.

  11. Thank you very much.
