Having a 'Purpose' in life is too easily used as having to justify your existence, your right to be alive and on this planet, in the eyes of another person.

  22. I want to make a difference in society. How big or small that change will be, I don't really mind. I just want to do something for good of society.

  23. @dovesgold I agree in part - all of us are equally needed and have the right to be here. But to feel that instead of merely drifting, that one is occupying a space filled well by their talents, can give a nice focus, I think. And I feel that it is for US, not others. :) Just my way of looking at it... @sayliza I think 'making a difference' is a lovely ideal. And we can all do that, in our own way and time, for at least one other person - often more. That's a nice goal to have, to live not just for ourselves.

I clicked on this to see if anyone mentioned that old movie "The Jerk" with Steve Martin where he discovered his "purpose".

The meaning is found in The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. According to the story, the "Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything" was asked of the computer Deep Thought. After 7 and a half million years of computing, the answer came out to be 42. Which totally confused Deep Thought's makers, so they created Earth to compute a better answer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_answer#Answer_to_the_Ultimate_Question_of_Life.2C_the_Universe_and_Everything_.2842.29
