What's the easiest way to accept payments on wordpress?

  1. Hi! I'm not very tech savvy and am looking for a way to accept payments and donations on my wordpress site. Specifically, donations for my nonprofit (threesquaremeals.org) and payments for submitting films to my film festival (foodandfarmfilms.com). I'm open to any vendor (paypal, stripe, google) that's easy for a non-tech person to integrate into my site. Please help! Thanks, Sarah

The blog I need help with is foodandfarmfilms.com.

  2. It's a shame that you've waited two hours for an answer you could have found yourself by using the Support site linked at the top of every forum page "Need help? Check out our Support site, then search the forums"
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/

Searching for "payment" brought back this return: http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Please be clear that WordPress.com sites cannot use plugins to accomplish this as no plugins are allowed here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

  3. Ok, so you've told me I can't use a PayPal plugin. I tried the paypal email link with no success. Can anyone actually answer my question, preferably in a non-snarky way? Remember, I'm a newbie and just offering a link is not going to help me. Thank you!

  4. Actually JJ did provide what you need -- but perhaps you're tripping over the term "plugin". We cannot use plugins in WordPress.com -- however we can easily follow the instructions she pointed to in order to create a Paypal donate button on a WordPress.com page. That is not a plugin. Also, check the rules governing use of WordPress.com for commerce.

  5. I tried that! I logged into PayPal created my button copied the HTML pasted it into the text version of my website saved it and it disappeared.

    Maybe you overlooked point 6?

You will see two (2) sets of code: html code Website and a link for Email. Believe it or not, you do not want the the code for websites. WordPress.com does not let users post web forms so the website code would be stripped. You must use the code found in Link for Emails. This is the link that you want to attach to your actual button image. Keep this window open, as you will need to copy that URL in a bit.

  7. Hmm, I tried that and it didn't work. I'll keep trying! :-(
