when i bought a domain it didn't work

  1. when i bought a domain for my site it didn't work when i went on it,it just showed the domain in the URL but on my actual blog at the bottom it said blog at WordPress.com when its ment to say proudly powered by wordpress why?

The blog I need help with is wengie2sbinweevilcheats.com.

  2. Because it's still AT WordPress.com. A custom domain is just a new address in the Browser Bar, it doesn't move your blog off WP.com to an independent host.

Every upgrade at WP.com applies only specifically to what it says. In this case, you have a custom domain that your readers can remember more easily and you can take with you, should you decide to leave WP.com. But you haven't left it, and all the restrictions and conditions that applied to you before still apply.

  3. but on one of my friends wordpress sites it says 'prowdly powered by wordpress' how do i get it to say that?

  4. That sounds like a WP.ORG site indead of a WP>Com site.

  5. You have to hire a web host such as dreamhost, bluehost, etc., install and configure the wordpress.ORG software on it, transfer all your content over to that self-hosted site.

Figure an average monthly cost, all things considered, of about $10 to $25 depending on your hosting needs (bandwidth, storage, etc.).

You will be responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong (such as installing a bad theme or plugin) you have to figure it out and fix it.

  6. how do i transfer my content?

  7. and are you saying that if I hire a web host will it cost money?

  8. Yes, it will cost $10 to $25 per month as I said, all things considered to self-host a wordpress.ORG installation so that you can have it say "powered by WordPress on the bottom. The following link gives you the basics on moving your content.
