where did "about" tab go?

  1. Hi! I used to have an "about" tab next to the "home" tab on my page. But now I only have the "home" tab and the "about" one mysteriously disappeared! I have been drafting my about page since yesterday and now I cannot access this draft either. Please help! Thanks!

The blog I need help with is withmie.wordpress.com.

  2. There is along standing issue that Staff are aware of. You may be able to recover an earlier Page Revision. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/page-revisions/ Go to Pages > All Pages, hover over the title of the page, click Edit and check the Page Revisions module for previous saved versions of the page.

If you're not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Pages > Pages and locate the page and recover it from page revisions.

If you cannot locate the page by using the instructions I provided for locating and restoring a page revision, and it's not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

    Advice:
When you start a new post or page, add the title, set it to private and then publish it. When you are done, set it back to publish and update it. Another option is to get and use an offline blog client such as Windows Live Writer (Windows) or Ecto (Mac) and then everything is saved on your computer and when you are done with the post, you actually publish it directly from the blog client software. See here for offline blog editors so you don't have to go through this again http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc

  3. Hi Timethief, thank you so much for your speedy reply!

I was able to find my about page with my draft intact, but the about tab still does not show up in my main header bar. Is this the problem you said wordpress is working on?

Thanks so much for always responding.

  4. Hi there,
Your blog is private do this is a stab in the dark. Have you created a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and added your Pages to it? http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages

Troubleshooting – My custom menu isn’t appearing
Go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Apearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select your custom menu from the pulldown and then click “save”.

Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing in my custom menu
They must be public pages – not private.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Blog Surfer, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.

    Here’s a link to a custom menu walkthrough > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/
