   Under Options - Discussion, I have the "Email me whenever anyone posts a comment" checked. Yet I never get an email. What address does that option use to send the notification?

   This blog has two users, both set up as administrators. The user whose account was used to set the blog up in the first place IS receiving the comment notifications. I was added as an admin after the blog was set up, and I do NOT get the notifications. So I guess I know the answer to my question: it appears only the person who set the blog up initially gets the notifications. My real question then, what can I do so that I get them too?

   The email notifications go to the email account that posted for that specific post.

   I have a multi-author blog and I only get comment email notifications for the posts I authored.

   Check that the User Profile for the email account you use for posting has the correct email address.

   I find it's a lot easier to do an RSS subscription for the comment feed and check it regularly. IE: http://thetwizzler.wordpress.com/comments/feed

   I've put in feedback asking that they give us a page that displays all comments for all posts, I suggest you do the same.

   I guess that makes sense, to only get notified of comments to your own entries. I'll watch some more and see if that's what's happening.

   Thanks for the tip on an RSS feed for the comments--I wasn't aware of that feature, and it will work quite nicely for what I want.

   in general, the comment notification emails seem to be sent to the "blog email address" listed at Admin -> Options -> General -> E-mail address. (testing at http://ps124.wordpress.com/ .) however we've also attempted to change the "blog email address" and our user addresses recently -- that process appears to be buggy and may be leading to our confusion.

   OK, i did some testing on this today. it helped me to sort this out a bit better -- hopefully it helps someone else also...

   1. create new blog, http://ps124third.wordpress.com --
      for clarity, a few terms... i'll refer to the email address of the user who created the account as "owner", and the address listed under Options -> General as "account" (these will be the same address until we explicitly change one of them)
   2. new comment by anonymous user on default post(1); notification from: account/owner; to: account/owner
   3. new post(3) by owner
   4. new comment by anonymous user on post 3; from: account/owner; to: account/owner
   5. change account email address: not allowed/working!
   6. change owner email address and confirm
   7. new comment(10) by anonymous user on post 3; from: account; to: account
   8. new comment by anonymous user on post 1; from: account; to: account
   9. approve comment 10 on post 3; no notification sent
   10. add existing wordpress.com user
   11. new post(4) by new user
   12. new comment by owner on post 4; from: account; reply-to: owner; to: new user
   13. new comment by new user on post 4; no notification sent
   14. new comment(13) by anonymous user on post 4; from: account; to: account
   15. approve comment 13 on post 4; from: anon commenter (name) account(address); reply-to: anon commenter; to: new user

   conclusions...

   • there are 2 types of comment notifications:
     1. comments held in moderation
     2. comments approved/added to a post
   • type 1 is always sent to the account email
   • type 2 is always sent to the address of the user who created the post (unless they added the comment themselves)

   by the way -- a note about changing the owner email address...

   1. change owner email address for a second time in a session: not allowed/working!
   2. log out, clear cookies, log back in: change owner email address and confirm

   edit to my post above... step 9 did in fact fire an email, and should read like this:

   approve comment 10 on post 3; from: anon commenter (name) account(address); reply-to: anon commenter; to: owner

   and that would modify my final conclusion slightly, like so:

   type 2 is always sent to the address of the user who created the post (unless they added the comment themselves; even if they approved the comment themselves)
