Where do people see new wordpress posts?

    Hi

When I made a new post a couple of days ago, I got 10 likes very quickly, but I don't actually understand where they found my post from. They weren't followers, so where do new posts actually turn up?

The blog I need help with is wholesomecynic.wordpress.com.

  2. When you go to http://wordpress.com/#!/read/topics/ you can explore blog posts that are tagged with specific topics. It is possible that your new likes came from people who follow those topics and saw your new post that way. Kind of neat, huh?

Another thing to be aware of is that likes are not page views. In fact, likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "like" and "share" your posts in several locations such as the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. See here for what I do to compel readers to read posts on my site > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/07/09/wordpress-followers-likes-and-stats

  4. Aside from Topics (Tags page) searches addressed above there are other ways people locate your content.

The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

For Google searches use this format and replace "keyword" with whatever word you wish:
    keyword site:wordpress.com/

    Example search string
    Queen Victoria site:wordpress.com
    results > http://tinyurl.com/csaobsx

Social networking searches for example Twitter search will also be a way that others find your content https://twitter.com/search/

Some will also use Find Friends Who Use WordPress > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/find-friends/

The comment about email subscribers and RSS feed showing 'summary' instead of whole text was particularly useful.

  8. I'm glad you found it. :)
