White As Milk

  1. This is just an idea!

Is there any chance that the team could widen the page on white as milk?

It's a fantastic theme, but very very thin wasting a lot of space. As Donncha well knows this is a great photoblogging template when it's slightly wider and the extra width would just allow for a slightly better layout for text blogs too.

    Thanks!

  2. Seconded.
There seems to be a lot less white space on the sides in the preview of it than there is when put into practice.

  3. I would not opt to have the themes editable. WordPress is organized and thats the beauty of it. I would hope they also add extra plugins such as;

    1. Most Commented Post
    2. Video or javascript

    or say, more themes.

  4. We're not asking for an editable theme - they've already said they won't do that for the free service.

Just want the theme to perform a little more as advertised.

  5. Indeed, I don't want the themes editable, just make this one a little wider.

It's a minimal theme as it is which I really like. I use it on my self-hosted photo blog and it works really well.

I don't think that the request for widgets is really appropriate to this thread.

As for your statements: Most commented post, why? I really can't understand why people would want this. Surely it's just for shameless self promotion: "Oh look at me, I have x comments on my post..."

    2. Youtube and Google Vid is already supported - so those could be used for video. As for javascript, search the forums and you'll find loads of threads discussing the hacking of other blog services (and myspace - bleh!) using Javascript.

  6. The sidebar needs to be widened as well. :)

  7. "As for your statements: Most commented post, why? I really can't understand why people would want this. Surely it's just for shameless self promotion: "Oh look at me, I have x comments on my post..."

That's exactly what I want cuz most of us wanted to have a little attention. Why would we want a Stats plugin in the first place if we don't care about people coming in to our sites? What is that for?

Apologize for posting to a wrong thread.

  8. I agree: the templates in general don't use the full screen space the way, say, the Dashboard does. Why aren't the templates wider? I just had to reduce and reduce to get a photo to fit the penurious space offered by the theme.

So I endorse the notion: alter the themes so that they make good use of the screen width.

    Thanks for listening.

  9. Leisureguy, just use a thumbnail. That's why they're there for. :)

The themes would have to be completely redesigned to make them wider. Header graphics and CSS and all the rest.

It does annoy me though that most themes are not that wide. It's probably though because they're trying to stay under 800 pixels in width to allow those with older browsers to see the blog fully without it getting messed up.

  10. Thanks, I apologize for the other post. Wasn't trying to spam the forum. I'll do a search on "thumnail" and see if I can find it...

  11. FAQ on uploading pictures and how to set the thumbnail.

I agree though that themes should be wider. I don't think though we're going to get theme designers to see it our way though.

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

  12. It worked like a charm! Many thanks. This totally solves the width problem for me, at least. (It's better for reading if the text field is narrow, and the thumbnails work.)

I found "thumbnail" in FAQ, followed your instructions to the letter (the second time :) and now it looks very cool. My kitty is happy, and I'm happy. Many thanks for the help.
