Whole post that took 2 days to write disappeared!?

  1. How can I recover a blog of 4000 words that just disappeared when I clicked publish?!!
It took a long time to write in the app on my phone, inc media, and when I clicked publish it indeed published but with NO CONTENT! It was an extremely detailed post that I cannot repeat the same again.
Please say it can be recovered!

The blog I need help with is sammypalomeque.wordpress.com.

  2. If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)

    I recommend:

    1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
    2. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, "click save draft" frequently.
    3. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
    4. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.
    5. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

If you cannot locate a revision or restore from Trash the content was stored only in your browser, has been lost, and cannot be recovered.

  3. Dear timethief,

    Thanks for your reply.

On the edit page of the post in question there is no revision option at all - publish, publicise, I can edit all that but there is not a revision button anywhere.

Is there no way of contacting wordpress admin to see if they can restore it? I am absolutely desperate to get this post back.

Thanks again for your quick response

  4. What was the title of the missing post?

  5. Hi macmanx,

The title is Namming Day 17 - Cycling, Farming, Buffalo, Fishing, Crabbing - Our Eco Tour!

  6. There is a draft with that name in your Dashboard, with 3 revisions.

When you edit the post, click the Screen Options tab near the top-right, then check "Revisions."

Once that's done, scroll down and you'll see a Revisions section below the post editor.

Then, just follow this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

  7. Yeah that's because I'm starting to write it again. Before I started rewriting it there really were no revision options for some reason. When a post is published do the revisions disappear?

    Thanks for your help

  8. No, revisions stick around for quite a while. I see the oldest one is August 23, was that when you started writing it again?

If so, what were you writing it in before it disappeared the first time?

  9. August 23rd was the day I finished and published it the original time.

Wow how can you see that?! I cannot! That would be amazing to be able to recover the completed post!

  10. Sure, can you see the Revisions section below the post?

    The oldest revision I see is "3 days ago (23 August, 2014 @ 14:21:07)"

I just opened it up now though, and sadly it is just the title, no post content. :(

  11. Thank you very much for your help but I've now rewritten it.
    Am a bit wary now!
    Thanks again

  12. You're welcome, sorry for the trouble!
