Why are my comments going to spam?

  • Hi! Starting today, I’ve had problems leaving comments on other WordPress blogs I follow. I type in the comments and they disappear, but don’t show on the site. I’ve just contacted one of the bloggers and she’s found the comments in her Spam folder. How did this happen and how can I fix it so that I’m no longer considered by Akismet as a spammer??

  • Akismet tightens up from time to time: recently they’ve been letting lots of spam through, so I guess they tightened up over the weekend and that’s how you got put in spam. Contact a couple of the other bloggers and explain, and ask them to un-spam you. Akismet will learn from that.

  • Please have your friend mark your comment as “not spam”. Then please select this option

  • Hi Raincoaster ~ Thank you! I’m doing that now, but it’s painful and laborious, as you can imagine. Timethief ~ thank you SO much. I’ve followed the link and tried to fill in the form (twice) but guess what… it just disappears. And then it reappears, exactly as I filled it in, so I have no idea whether it’s going through at all.

  • So. I’ve heard nothing back from Askimet but I’ve had several bloggers (at least five or six) retrieve and restore my blog comments. How long will it take before I get taken off the blacklist? Because it’s really, really time intensive and massively frustrating to follow up every blog comment I leave with an email explaining the situation and begging to find my comment and de-spam. I have a dayjob and this is killing blogging dead for me, TBH. :(

  • We really don’t know the answer to that here in the Support Forums. It’s an Akismet Staff issue. As you aren’t sure your contact form was received by Akismet Staff I’ll tag this thread for Support Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  • Thank you so very much. I’m not alone in this problem ~ turns out a lot of my fellow bloggers and followers are experiencing the same issue. We’re all checking our spam folders like mad and ‘reinstate’ each other all the time now. Weird stuff! But thank you for your support, you’ve been great. :-)
