Sorry,. that link is incorrect. How can I find a certain user in the Forum ?

  3. Hi.
type the name of the user into the search box above the forum and may find the user posts.
click on the username and it will lead to their primary blog, if they have attached it.

I have typed your Forum name DLAGER, and get nothing, zilch, nada.

OK, there are two search boxes. I typed into the upper one. Why two search boxes ?
I also notice it is not possible to edit my posts. I know the answer on this: that this is a policy by WP since it was abused by the Forum users. Let me express med serious doubts. I know of no other forum that does not allow editing.

Sorry, the spelling is incorry: my serious doubts (not med serious doubts)
Editing every misstake will clutter down the Forum. That is also an "abuse" , isn't it.
What kind of "abuse" was it that WP wants to avoid ?

Sorry, the spelling is incorrect (not "incorry") , I mean, I am very sorry. Now let me check once again the spelling. Yes, it seems correct

  9. Let me express med serious doubts. I know of no other forum that does not allow editing.

Excuse me but I have been here for over 5 years. I date back to the time when there was only 1 head of support, 1 moderator, and 1 threads with FAQs in a forum thread. There was no support documentation. I witnessed the abuse of the edit feature.

If you have a technical support issue pertaining to your own blog and the software and features you are using please post it now. Thanks, in advance, for comprehending that Volunteers don't have time to chat. We are here to help people who have software issues and we are willing to help you with any you have so please post them now.

My original question is regarding how come some users are totally shut off from any further participation in Forum and their names are not even possible to search for.

  11. I am not aware of any users who are unable to use the forums. Only Staff can answer that question for you. The searchboxes here are not intended for use when it comes to searching for WordPress.com usernames.

If you remember the exact username of the user you want to find, put this in the address bar of your browser and hit return:
    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/USERNAME HERE

  13. There are many reasons that someone might be banned from the forums and you might want to look at the "code of conduct" sticky post at the top of the forum. There have been many instances where some people got completely out of control and were either banned for a while, or banned forever. They can still get support by going directly to wordpress.com support instead of posting in the forums.

Staff I'm sure take banning, permanent or whatever, seriously and always decide on a case by case basis. Staff will not discuss any of that stuff with others. It is between them and the person who was banned.

  14. I typed "dlager" into the forum search box and found an entire slew of forum posts in which people were addressing dlager. I then went to one of the posts and clicked the "member" link under that name and came up with all of the threads he's/she's participated in. I suggest that if you're looking for a specific user in the forums, you type the name in the forum search box & if anyone has addressed the person in a post, the post will come up.

Or, even better, use the method that panos suggests and use the url in this format: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/username replacing "username" with the actual username you're searching for.

Threads are routinely closed for a number of reasons, one of which may be that it discusses a specific ToS violoation, or simply because the thread had become long, old, and had wandered off-topic. Closing a topic means that it is still there to provide search results for folks looking for a similar problem, but the thread cannot be simply added on to with a new post.

  15. You can also get banned from the forum for short periods of time by dropping an F bomb.

There are also accidents where people get "Bozo'd" ie their posts are visible to them, but not to anyone else. This can happen if someone drops "too many" links and triggers anti-spam software, for instance.

@rain: The "Member" link is still missing from under your username - don't see the point of that.
Ah but I forget: we're now under the James Code of Conduct... (Sounds too Elizabethan, doesn't it?)

  17. I don't see the point of it either. I've got 800+ pages of questions I've answered in the forums, and hardly any of them have F bombs in them.

  18. @hermanminkowski

Users are shut out of a WordPress forum thread when they post spam.
    (repeating offenders are banned completely)

Threads are automatically closed after 30 days of no responses.

Discussions about ToS violations are closed: we volunteers have no authority to address such issues, and staff will not discuss issues like that in the public forums.

People who do not follow the code of conduct will also be banned from the forums.
    Please read: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-forums-code-of-conduct?replies=1

If you have no other questions, then please mark this thread "resolved."

  19. @rain,
I also don't understand why they have not restored the member link to your name.

  20. It'd be a handy thing to remove if, for instance, I had a stalker or something. But there seems to be no point to it. The URL still works: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/raincoaster

And my username still links to my blog.

I searched Minkowski. No result. This means that this person is blocked. yet I know has a site.
Nor can I find any link to send a question to support staff.

  22. Did you try using Google by searching all of wordpress.com? Put this into the search box and see if anything comes up for you regarding whoever it is you are looking for.

    site:http://wordpress.com Minkowski

When I try to go to a wordpress.com profile for "minkowski" this is what comes back:

    User not found.

That means a username of "minkowski" does not exist here.

If I do this, http://minkowski.wordpress.com/ , then there is a blog with that URL, but it has not been used since 2009.

  23. Accidents too happen too. I have not been able to participate in this forum for some months despite never spamming or swearing. I have contacted support on numerous occasions, but no replies. If any of you can see this then the issue has been resolved..... hurrah!

  24. @knashermac2009, I see you just fine.

  25. @tsp, Great! ( I think someone told me that I wouldn't be told once the issue had been resolved.)

I wonder if my previously "invisible" comments on this forum are now visible to everyone else? Not that it matters.....

  26. @herman, people get usernames and then blogs that do not match those all the time. My username here is "thesacredpath" but my blog here is opposablethumbz . I do have the blog matching my username set as private, but I know quite a number of people that do not have a blog that matches their username.

There is no one here with a username of minkowski . Since there is a blog with that URL, then that username is reserved by wordpress so that there can't be any possible confusion with one person having a username of minkowski and another one having a blog with a URL of minkowski.wordpress.com.

For all we know, the username for the owner of minkowski.wordpress.com might be ladygaga.

  27. On this blog, minkowski.wordpress.com , I clicked on the post title to be taken to the single-post page and the username is listed there. It is "fields". Take a look here, http://minkowski.wordpress.com/2009/03/01/prolog/ , and under the post you will see "~ by fields on March 1, 2009."

  28. Actually I should make one correction. "fields" could be a "display name" that they set up rather than the actual username, but there is a "fields" username here.

    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/fields

  29. People get blogs and names for all sorts of reasons, I know a few people that have a blog name but have not used it, they just could not resist the name so maybe in the future they will use it. At least one person has a mapped domain name that has sentimental value to them (it is a nickname) and it was still open on the internet so they registered it and mapped it - the site just says "post after I mapped things"

Others get a name and then find that writing can be a lot of work so they put things on hold for a while.

  30. I am also not certain what the fact that there is or is not a wp.com user with the username "minkowski" has to do with the initial question about being blocked from a forum, or why anyone would care whether some person they don't know is blocked. Besides, wouldn't they still have a profile even if they were blocked, if they actually existed? I'm not sure what the point of this was, unless it was simply to try to find someone with the username "minkowski" and make contact with that person?
