it's always square and i wish i could crop my avatar more rectangular way. any help?

I'm sorry but that is not possible. It's a what you see is what you get situation.

Best bet would be to submit a Feedback from your dashboard with this suggestion. Staff probably went with a square shape since it was just a basic shape. I known that if you went with a rectangle, then you would have to deal with different ratios, if one would be taller or squater, etc.
