Why can’t I start a new blog?

    I have been trying to start a new blog with my existing account. When I click the “register a new blog” after logging in, it brings me to a page to enter the new blog details. But whenever I try to click in the boxes to do so, nothing happens. The boxes/blanks do not seem clickable.

    Next, I tried the option “username only” rather than the usual domain format. Then I tried to find something from there to blog. Again – nothing seems to work.

    What is happening here?

    Have you tried logging out, closing the browser and clearing the cache and the Temp Internet files. Then relogin and try again.

    That worked for me when i had trouble setting up my second blog.

    Clearing the cookie cache in addition to the file cache would probably be helpful.

    What browser, browser version, OS and secrutiy programs are you running by the way?

    I had the same problem, but when I used Firefox instead of Explorer, it worked out fine.

    We try to not tell folks to switch browsers around here as that’s really not an acceptable answer except for the current issues with Safari.

    I’ve never had problems using IE7. So long as you clear you cache (both cookies and files) and the temp folders regularly you should be fine.

    Never understood why people knock IE7 to be honest, i prefer it over firefox which just looks to clunky for me :) IE7is all nice and slim.

    One thing i will say though is if you use Lavasofts AdAware proggy it can be a bit over sensitive with WordPress.com. I’ve had to turn it off a few times ive been here cause i got fed up with a screen full of warnings lol

    Still don’t really get it. I went to Internet Options and deleted all temporary files. But still don’t quite work. If not too inconvenient, maybe some kind soul can list down the steps – Step 1, step 2… etc.

    Assuming IE7…

    Tools – Internet options – General tab – Browsing history section – delete – delete the following “files”, “cookies”, forms”.

    For good measure then close and restart IE.

    Unfortunately IE only gives you a blanket delete of the cookies that I can see. Pity. It’s much easier to delete cookies for one site that’s giving you trouble rather than the whole batch of them.

    If you still can’t create a new blog, check the slider on the security and privacy tabs. Default is medium-high for the security tab and medium for the privacy tab.

    If that still fails check and see if your security software (Norton, Kaspersky, etc) isn’t being overly paranoid (Kaspersky is great but it really could use a bit of Haldol for its paranoia).

    If all else fails after you’ve tried those suggestions, email support and put in the whole detailed situation history, plus the URL of the blog you want and your existing account data. Maybe there’s a back end problem as you’re not the only one to have reported such issues in the past 24 hours.
