Why do the categories and tags only link other posts on the blog?

  1. I tried to get help earlier today but I must of done something wrong when I added the topic. Since I switched to the Twenty Ten Theme all the tags and categories on each post and on the side bar only direct the reader to the posts on the blog . Previously the side bar category and tag clouds directed to the global tag page. Is this a default on the theme or am I not activating the setting correctly ? Thanks

The blog I need help with is darkpinesmedia.wordpress.com.

  2. The theme is behaving correctly. If you are referring to a wordpress.COM blog then please post the link to the blog in question starting with http://

All Categories and Tags assigned to any post on a wordpress.com blog, whether displayed above the post or below it, will direct to the wordpress.com global tag pages.

All links in Categories and Tags widgets in the sidebars of wordpress.COM blogs will direct only to the posts in the specific blog that the widgets are displayed on.
    See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/

  3. Here is my blog http://darkpinesmedia.wordpress.com .
I just tried the blog again, both on my computer and my wife's computer. I tried different posts but the results are the same. All Categories and Tags assigned to the posts are behaving the same as the sidebar clouds.

  4. Sidebar widgets link to Local tag pages: links on individual posts should link to global tag pages, UNLESS you've set your blog to be invisible to search engines. Can you check that setting?

  5. I just checked it out. It was set to:
" I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers" . To be on the safe side I hit save. When I checked just now there was no change. I did go over the global tag support page several times before opening up this topic. I know that the connections worked before I changed themes.

  6. I'm not familiar with the theme but I do know some of the newer themes have the option to make tags local; can you check under Theme Options and also under Extras?

  7. Couldn't find anything that set tags as local. This is the description of theme.

Twenty Ten by the WordPress team

The 2010 default theme for WordPress.
Options: Widgets | Extras | Background | Header | Typekit Fonts | Edit CSS

    Tags: black, blue, white, two-columns, fixed-width, custom-header, custom-background, threaded-comments, sticky-post, translation-ready, microformats, rtl-language-support, editor-style

  8. Then I can only suggest that you contact staff and get them to look at it. Even if they've set your blog as "Adult" for some reason, the tags should still link out to the global pages (just not back to your blog!).

  9. Hello you two,
I have the theme up on my test blog now and it's behaving exactly the same way. They is no option I can find and I assumed that this was due to what raincoaster pointed out. It's set to "private". Yours isn't. So either this "exclusion from global tag pages" is a theme feature, which I doubt as it's the new default theme or, it's a something is broken in your blog situation.

  10. Thanks. I'llget back later. I will see if I can make any changes using this theme. If not I'll try another that worked before. If a problem shows up, then it must be at my end.

  11. I suspect that the theme team simply didn't get that bit of code into the theme that makes tags under/over posts go global.

  12. Looking into this. I will post back when I have more information.

  13. Having same experience. Was using Regulus theme before and then the tags above/below posts were going to global tags while the widget tag cloud directed to the local tags.
Made the switch to Twenty Ten and am experiencing similar behaviour as elmediat. Looks like a theme issue, either by design or by mistake. (Saying possibly "by design" bcoz some ppl might prefer post tags redirecting to local tags rather than going out of the blog, bcoz blog visitors might not know that widget tags are for browsing blog while post tags are global)

  14. It would be nice if wordpress had the option to make all tags local.
