Why does my blog not load?

  1. my wordpress.com blog will not load from any computer.

The blog I need help with is franklyliving.wordpress.com.

  2. My blog has stopped loading from any computer. (We have tried several.) We cleared the cache, cookies, etc. . . still does not work. The problems started around post #400. Is there a limit to the number of posts on the free wordpress service, or is this a coincidence?

I can log into my admin page, but cannot load the blog itself.

Blog is "franklyliving.wordpress.com" and theme is "twenty ten."

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions!

  3. Oh, one more thing. . .

The admin pages work, but they are SUPER slow. Sometimes it takes more than five minutes to load a post or to post something new!

  4. You are right, that blog is not loading. You haven't by any chance been copy/pasting posts from Word or some other program, have you? If so, go to Settings->Writing and select "Wordpress should correct invalidly nested HTML" and save that setting. Then on the bulk editor page (ie Dashboard->Posts) set all the most recent posts to Private, then back to Public. That causes that setting to take effect on them. If that doesn't clear it up, report back, please.

  5. Hmm, thanks for the tip!

I typically draft my posts in a google doc, but most of my posts are laden with photos which are embedded by simply typing the url of a my flickr hosted photo - a method that was once supported (but might not be any longer, perhaps?)

I have thousands of photos embedded this way, often around 100 photos per post, so hopefully I won't have to go back and "fix" them all. Yikes!

Anyway, I followed the directions you suggested:
-- Settings->Writing and select "Wordpress should correct invalidly nested HTML" and save that setting. --

This helped! The blog url loads now, though it is slow. The admin pages are also very slow. Any ideas for how to address the speed?

For example, I am trying to complete the second half of your instructions but "Dashboard->Posts" does not load.

    Thank you for your assistance!

  6. Ok, just kidding. . . blog url no longer loads for me!

Any other ideas and tips will be very helpful!

  7. Pasting from teh Google Doc is as bad as pasting from Word. You will HAVE to make that change in the Writing page.

If you have 100 photos per post, and you do not truncate your posts to display just an excerpt on the front page, then it's almost certain your blog is simply too large for any computer to load. You'll have to either use a theme that automatically truncates posts or add in the More tag.

  8. Thanks raincoaster. Though I have not truncated posts in the past, the problem only presented in the last year or so. (I'm finally sitting down to try and correct it!)

I cannot open any old posts from the admin page to go in and add the "more tag" because the "posts" page will not fully load.

    Grr. Any other ideas?

Thanks for your time and your assistance!

  9. I'll tag this for staff. If nothing else, they can switch you to a theme that truncates posts and you can take it from there. I hope you're remembering to embed only the low-res images, rather than the full-size ones. That's another factor in blowing up a blog: huge file size due to resolution so fine that monitors cannot display it.

  10. Thanks for your help, raincoaster.

I agree that the posts might take a while to load given the image-heavy content, but I don't understand why my admin pages will not load.

Hopefully a fix can be found!

    Thanks again for your assistance.

  11. Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Safari?

  12. Kardotim,

Thanks for your note. I have had the problem using Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

  13. By the way, this is what it looks like when I click on "posts" to try and view or edit any existing (previous) posts in either Chrome or Safari.

  14. I was able to reproduce the issue and I've just contacted a developer to take a closer look at it.

I'll contact you once we know more.

  15. Thanks!

  16. It seems the many Flickr embeds caused this issue. It has been fixed now but we highly recommend that you either use the WordPress.com image or Gallery feature instead.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

  17. Thanks!

  18. You're welcome. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
