WHY DONT THEY FIX LINE SPACING? ITS HILARIOUS

  1. I can see that the double line spacing problem has been from 2009 here and still no change. What is wrong with wordpress.com?

How can you make a platform that doesnt allow line spacing???

The blog I need help with is mkaskima.wordpress.com.

  2. All themes here perform exactly thw way the web designer designed the theme to operate. If you want to learn yow to format and space your posts and pages see here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

    (2) If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph. If you are working in the HTML editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

  3. P.S. Your username is linked to a free hosted WordPress.com blog that lacks any blogger created content. Please read this WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org: The Differences If you are referring to a WordPress.org install then you must post to the correct support forum for that software http://wordpress.org/support/ as we cannot help you here with any blog that's not being free hosted by WordPress.com.

  4. IT does not work.

NOTHING WORKS.I've been reading tips for hours.
    It's a big joke.

  5. they should really fix this issue, because the whole wordpress.com website is 100% useless if they wont fix this issue.

This is a real problem for poets like myself so i agree with @mkaskima about this. I don't understand why WP won't fix this either. My poems are never lined up the way they should be, and if i do manage to get them line spaced correctly, once the post is saved it reverts back. Stupid nonsense. There must be thousands of poets blogging here yet WP won't make the line spacing work correctly. I want my poems lined a certain way, and i cannot do that with WP. It's not rocket science, it's line spacing, surely it's not too difficult to make it work?

You are completely off base by demanding a "fix" for something that is not broken~!

Blog editors an are not word processors. Moroever, wordpresscessors like Microdsoft WORD are not even compliant.

The line spacing in your blogs is determined by the coding in the underlying template. I provided what works above and you say it doesn't. Well I've been using them for 6 1/2 years and they do work.

    @tindywrenpoetry
There are instructions for formatting powetry in the blog editor provided here in the support documentation > http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

Oooh pardon me for agreeing something needed fixing. For a poet it IS something that needs fixing. But don't worry i'll go and hang my head in shame for daring to speak up.

  10. As a blogger you will have to learn how to use the software you have chosen to use if you want your poetry to be read. Both myself and Staff provided the link to the documentation you need to read and to follow http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/
I wish you all the best with mastering that concept and the learning curve involved.

  11. No, the shift key thing + enter thing does not work, the break in html code thing does not work either.

Indeed it's not rocket science and wordpress could at least fix this issue of number 1 importance.

This issue is like trying to type a book without using words.

Let's think about it a bit:

If those tips had worked for me, I wouldn't be here right now, now would I?

  12. And the URL for the blog is?

  13. I'll look into it tomorrow.

@timethief I am not lacking in intelligence, and so i am quite capable of 'mastering that concept'. Which i did years ago. It's a shame that 'concept' is faulty though.

  15. @mkaskima

    I'll look into it tomorrow.

Look into what? Where the blog is ie. the URL for the exact blog your are working on starting with http:// canbot be a mystery to you. Post the link and Staff will enter the blog from the backend and ascertain exactly what your problem is today -- no need to wait for tomorrow.

  16. No, the shift key thing + enter thing does not work, the break in html code thing does not work either.

...works for me. Maybe you're not using the proper 'shift' key. Maybe you could publish a post so we can see what it is you're doing wrong / right? That might help.

@tindywrenpoetry: this is as good as it gets, use it or don't. You're an intelligent, capable human being, who 'gets it', find a work around. Somehow I've managed in the past to write out George Bowering poems on a WP blog using only standard HTML, and they look just like the ones in his books.

Holding TT responsible for your not being able to get things just right is... lets say, silly.

  17. @tindywrenpoetry

i am quite capable of 'mastering that concept'. Which i did years ago. It's a shame that 'concept' is faulty though.

I don't know what you think you mastered. If you are referring to being matsreful while stating software is broken when it isn't, then you are perching on a broken branch. When it comes to the concept in question I don't we are on the same page. Specifically, I'm not clear on how the concept of accepting the fact that the software is not broken and learning how to work with it amounts to a faulty concept.

  18. WordPress is open-source software, so anyone can write a fix for this if they want. Go for it; I'm sure a lot of bloggers would welcome it.

  19. @timethief

Do I have to make my blog public for that?
It's http://cannamellia.wordpress.com but set to private.

At first the line spacing worked normal, but then at a random time it suddenly became impossible to use. And I don't remember changing any settings or anything, which is very strange.

Then I made this account and tried making posts with line spacing on this account again, but it didn't work on this account either.

  20. @mkaskima

Do I have to make my blog public for that?

    No. As I said above:

Post the link and Staff will enter the blog from the backend and ascertain exactly what your problem is today -- no need to wait for tomorrow.

Now I will flag this thread for Staff attention so that takes place.

  21. If you hate it that much, go elsewhere. Funny how you're the only one that's complaining about it, the rest of us 2 million + users know how to work around it.

  22. Can you give me a link to a specific post where double-line spacing isn't working for you?

  23. Here double spacing doesn't work.

    http://cannamellia.wordpress.com/2012/07/01/183/

If I make a new post, it doesn't work either though.

  24. Check the HTML editor tab. Each paragraph is wrapped in a span style, which negates any manual spacing. This usually happens when the text is copied from another application or webpage.

If you remove the span tags, you'll be able to add manual spacing.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

  25. How to remove span tags?

  26. Switch to the HTML editor tab and remove anything that looks like:

<span [there may be extra stuff here]>

    and:

    </span>

  27. Thanks a lot! :)
I am not very good with editing code

  28. I removed every element with the word "span" in it, and the line spacing still doesn't work.

  29. Have you tried inserting HTML line breaks via the HTML editor tab? Here's an example of one line break:

    <br />
