Need help? Check out our Support site, then

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO LOG INTO THIS BLASTED SITE?

  1. The site keeps asking for a password. I have changed it three times today, but it still won't accept any of the APPROVED new passwords that I submit.

The blog I need help with is propertyrights.utah.gov.

  2. The answer is "security". Your protection against having your blog hacked is s strong password. The software will not accept a weak one.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/selecting-a-strong-password/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

  3. P.S. I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up.

  4. Gee thanks, Timethief! I never knew that passwords protected the blog from being hacked. To paraphrase Hawkeye Pierce, "You don't need to tell me the blatantly obvious, the merely obvious is sufficient."

The site won't accept the passwords that the site has approved. I've changed the password three times already (all approved by the Password Commisar), but when I log in with the new, improved, and approved password, the site says the password is incorrect.

  5. You are, of course, logging in as http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibility">Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog in question, because if you aren't then the login information (username & password) would not be accepted. ;)

Clicking this link should display all your blogs registered under the same username, including the hidden ones: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs&show=hidden

If you do not see the blog here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/ then
    follow this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibility

  6. Don't worry, the blog is there. And yes, I am logging in with the same admin name.

I logged in earlier today without any problem, the log in information was saved). When I tried to log in again, it asked for the password. I entered my password: invalid. I changed it using the accepted procedure: invalid. I changed it again, according to the accepted procedure: invalid. Now it won't let me even try to change the password for 30 minutes.

I have better things to do than this.

  7. Please confirm the URL of the blog in question for Staff, so no time is wasted when they eventually get to this thread.

  8. Good now all you need to do is subscribe to the thread and wait patiently for Staff to work their way through the threads that were marked for their attention previous to this one.

  9. Just tried again, since my 30 minute sentence was up.

Got the new password approved, wrote it down, and copied it.

Logged in with said new password: invalid

Double checked new password, logged in: invalid

Triple checked new password, logged in: invalid.

  10. Maybe this is an issue of capitalization or non-capitalization of the letters and or numbers in the password.

  11. Are you logging in using this link?
    http://propertyrights.utah.gov/wp-admin/

Or are you logging in using this link?
    http://utahpropertyrights.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

  12. After checking three times, I am absolutely positive that the password was entered EXACTLY as you approved.

  13. I approved nothing.
You are speaking software so please don't get personal as it's silly to do so.

    I repeat:

Are you logging in using this link?
    http://propertyrights.utah.gov/wp-admin/

Or are you logging in using this link?
    http://utahpropertyrights.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

  14. Speaking "TO" software is just as silly as explaining the purpose of a password, and presuming that the fault is mine.

My point is that the password met with whatever approval is required from the WordPress website, but it still doesn't work.

I expect more customer service, and less lecturing.

  15. I expect more customer service, and less lecturing.

I haven't lectured you. I'm the longest serving Volunteer at WordPress.com. I have been answering questions here for many years longer than almost all Support Staff have even been on staff.

and presuming that the fault is mine

Exactly where and when did that take place?
    The answer is it didn't.

Unfortunately you are projecting, rather than answering my twice posted question.

Are you logging in using this link?
    http://propertyrights.utah.gov/wp-admin/

Or are you logging in using this link?
    http://utahpropertyrights.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Bottom line: Staff work their way through threads tagged for their attention like this one by dealing with those that have the earliest date and timestamps first, then moving forward to deal with those that have the most recent date and time stamps. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to assist the bloggers who posted before you did.

  16. What happens when you don't use the https:// log-in but use the http:// log in instead? Have you tried doing that?

  17. Lecturing--

11:24 am: "The answer is "security". Your protection against having your blog hacked is s strong password. The software will not accept a weak one."

    Presuming the fault is mine--

12:08 pm: "Maybe this is an issue of capitalization or non-capitalization of the letters and or numbers in the password."

  18. When I use the http: log in, the URL changes to https:, and the password is invalid.

  19. I abandoned that immediately when you Hawkeye Pierced me and I answered you with a comment using ;)

Yes I continued to ask questions on capitalization, on exactly which login link you were using, and on using the http:// login as opposed to https:// login because that is how issues are resolved.

Have no doubt about it. I don't believe you did anything wrong and I hope to see Staff help you resolve this as soon as they can. That's why I tagged the thread for their help.

  20. When I use the http: log in, the URL changes to https:, and the password is invalid.

    BINGO!

Thanks for posting that information for Staff.

  21. Hi erlawrence,

Please understand that timethief is one of our dedicated forums volunteers, and she was just trying to get enough details from you that we could help you with troubleshooting this issue.

Could you please try logging in again by going directly to http://propertyrights.utah.gov/wp-admin/ (rather than the long authorization URL you posted here), and let me know if that works for you?

If not, please let me know exactly what your error message is. A screenshot would be especially helpful.

  22. Still not resolved. I tried logging in using that address. Same result.

  23. Is it possible to actually talk to a person instead of writing emails?

  24. The way we communicate here is in writing. There is no phone support.

  25. Well? When is this going to be resolved?

  26. If not, please let me know exactly what your error message is. A screenshot would be especially helpful.

Perhaps providing @jackiedana with the information she requested will help move things along?

In case you need it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

  27. @erlawrence OT, but still important.

While the above site has the Custom Design upgrade, it appears that the credits in the footer (as required by WordPress.com), have been removed. Please read the note here: May I remove credit links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com’, theme, font, or toolbar links? http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

So, when you are able to log-in, please consider the footer credits in the Sight theme.

  28. Hi justjennifer,

Thanks for pointing the footer issue out.

erlawrence, I can see you are resetting your password successfully on our end, and there does not appear to be any issue with your account, which is indeed listed as a user on utahpropertyrights.wordpress.com. Please let me know exactly what error message you receive if you are still unsuccessful when you try to log in at http://propertyrights.utah.gov/wp-admin/
