Why isn't my domain mapping working?

    I am attempting to map my domain name to my WordPress.com address (rebeccarogge.wordpress.com). I attempted to follow the directions contained both on GoDaddy's support forum (http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5182/mapping-your-domain-to-work-with-a-wordpresscom-blog) and WordPress's (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/).

    I purchased domain mapping from WordPress then set my nameservers, as directed. I then selected my domain name through WordPress.com. In my domain manager, rebeccarogge.com is now listed as the primary domain. Under the "add a domain" manager, it says "This blog is currently being redirected to rebeccarogge.com."

    BOTH SETS OF INSTRUCTIONS INDICATE A STEP FOR GOING TO SETTINGS >>> DOMAINS BUT THERE IS NO SUCH SUB DIRECTORY UNDER SETTINGS.

    When I go to rebeccarogge.com, however, I get the "This website is not available" error message. (rebeccarogge.wordpress.com has the same issue.) I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Please help! (I did contact GoDaddy first and they said that "since my domain is pointing to another hosting provider" I needed to consult you guys instead. Please help!

    The blog I need help with is rebeccarogge.com.

    Domain Helper shows you have set things correctly - it can take 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet - you are still under 72 hours - usually changes start after a few hours

    So should I just wait until it has been 72 hours? What should I do if it is still not working then?

    Hi there,
    I also purchased domain mapping upgrade, I own my domain through Go Daddy, and have published a post but my content is not visible. Can you please check the settings? it has been almost a month since I purchased the domain mapping upgrade, so time is not the issue.
    The domain is bohorepublic.com

    That site is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

    does that mean i'm not paying for hosting? I thought I was... but I guess I need to double check. thanks.

    You are paying for hosting for that site elsewhere ie. GoDaddy is the host. Hosting at WordPress.com is free of charge.

    Did you change or set up anything at Godady other than just changing the name servers? Did you buy anything here other than Domain Mapping?

    Give it 72 hours - then if you are still having problems post back in this thread that you are still having problems then add "modlook" as a tag (without the quotes) - that will flag it for the staff to help you

    Hi there @rebeccarogge,

    I checked your site, and it looks like you're asking the domain to redirect to your WP.com site, instead of mapping the domain.

    If you were blogging somewhere previously, and want to make sure that people can find your new site with your new domain, you'd want to get the redirect upgrade.

    If, instead, you want to map your existing domain to your site (so that your custom URL will take you to your WordPress.com site), you just need to follow the directions for mapping an existing URL.

    If you can confirm what you'd like to do, I'd be happy to help you take care of this! A word to note, however; if you end up needing the mapping, it can take up to 72 hours before you will see your site at your URL.

    I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

    Perhaps I should resummarize. I purchased my domain name from GoDaddy. My website was previously located at rebeccarogge.wordpress.com. Basically what I need to happen is for typing "rebeccarogge.com" to take visitors to my site.

    I think this is what you meant when you said "If, instead, you want to map your existing domain to your site (so that your custom URL will take you to your WordPress.com site), you just need to follow the directions for mapping an existing URL."

    I did already purchase mapping from WordPress. As far as I can tell, I followed the instructions for mapping.

    Does this clarify my dilemma?

    That helps clarify a lot :)

    I've updated your upgrade and domain to be inline with what you wanted. You should be able to see your site at rebeccarogge.com now (I can!)

    PERFECT! Was it something I did wrong? I ask because I may be doing this process again soon (with a different site) and I want to make sure I don't repeat any mistakes I may have made.

    Hi there,

    It looks like you had set the domain as a redirect instead of just mapping it.

    When you're ready to map an existing domain, you'll have to update your nameservers on your existing domain, and also log into your WordPress.com dashboard and enter the domain on your Store > Domains page.
