Just this last month or so I've been getting far more spam than ever before - around 100 a day. These are mostly being picked up as spam but I still have to delete them each day.
Any idea why I'm attracting all this extra spam all of a sudden and how I can minimise it?

It's very possible (likely even) the answer to "why is there an increase?" is "you've done nothing". Spam is uneven and unpredictable. The important thing is that it is caught.
You shouldn't be seeing spam slipping by. If you're finding spam that's slipping past though, please do be sure to Spam the comments that are missed as our spam engine (Akismet) learns from that.
