Why won't self-hosted wordpress blog import to wordpress.com blog?

  1. I have a self-hosted wordpress blog (www.nwstamper.com) and I wanted to migrate it back to wordpress.com for wordpress hosting. I exported the content from my self-hosted site and went through the import set on my wordpress.com site (http://northweststamper.wordpress.com) and got an email last night saying the import was complete. But when I go to the blog, it is empty and no posts are listed in the admin tools. I'm trying the import again, but why would this import appear to work but actually fail?

The blog I need help with is northweststamper.wordpress.com.

  2. It looks like there are 758 posts on your site, which suggests the import has worked. Could you take a look and let me know if you continue to have problems with this?

  3. I just did some more testing. I was able to get the posts in by exporting just posts but I just tried again this evening to export "all content" from my wordpress.org blog and import that to my wordpress.com blog. I got notification that the import was successful, but nothing appears to have been imported. My most recent posts are not showing up on the wordpress.com blog and the images in my blog posts are point back to my wordpress.org media and are not in my wordpress.com media library. So, something in the import is not working.

  4. I appreciate your patience with this import. I'm going to look into your import issues for you and will keep you posted on the progress.

  5. One of our developers has worked on this import for you. For some reason, it's just not coming into WordPress.com cleanly.

He got as many of your images into your WordPress.com site and linked to the original posts as he could.

Hopefully the outcome is satisfactory. If you have any questions or concerns about this, let me know. We can try another import if you can provide a file that includes all of your actual image files, not just the standard export file, but there are no guarantees that it will work any better.

Let me know what you think and we can discuss options further if necessary.
