How much wider were you thinking about?
Right now the main section of your site where the posts, sidebar and header are, is 960px wide and since there are still a good number of web users on 1024px wide monitors, and about the maximum you can go and not create horizontal scroll bars for those people, is 990px, which would only gain you 30px of width for the post area. You can narrow the sidebar some, but to keep a good visual balance, you don't want to narrow it too much.
Think about that and then let us know what you want to do.
