Newbie here .... I am trying to add some flash map embed code to allow a map to display on the sidebar. I tried the Text widget but upon copy/pasting/saving the code is reduced greatly to a simple URL within the code -- is there a widget that would work for this? (If you click on the link once opening page it opens up to a screen full of characters. Thx.

Absolutely no Flash, iFrame or Javascript codes are permitted anywhere on WP.com blogs. Clever folks have occasionally found ways to circumvent this but they're not allowed.
If it's flash it can be embedded. Please paste the code here, enclosed in backticks (see below reply field).
