Will purchasing the Custom Design upgrade allow me to move my header?

  1. I need to get rid of the gap between the header image and the top of the page for my site.

    I am using the Adelle template and would really like confirmation of whether it is possible to place header image at very top of page after purchasing the upgrade. As I don't want to purchase and then not be able to do what I had intended.

    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is gymnesia.com.

  2. This thread will be moved to the CSS Forum where those who help with CSS editing will provide a definitive answer to your question.

  3. Thanks @timethief, is there a guarantee that I will get a reply/help?
    I'm quite keen to finalise my layout and start publishing, happy to purchase the upgrade if it will be of use.

  4. There is no guarantee, but my experience is that yes, you'll be able to make that change. I suggest you read the recommended references at the top of that forum and use the free preview feature to tinker and see how easy it is.

    I also suggest you NOT wait till your theme is exactly the way you want before you start publishing. This is the #1 mistake I see people making.

  5. Thank you for your reply @raincoaster.

    I've found the following guide: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/gap-between-page-top-and-header-image-for-tofurious-theme

    However when I preview the upgrade there is no code to alter, so I'm a bit confused!

    I understand that the post above is for .org but I would have thought that html would be available to adapt, no?

    Is it just not viewable in the preview of the upgrade?

    Thanks again!

  6. Please do not rely on anything you find at WordPress>ORG.
    That information does not apply to our free hosted WordPress>COM blogs. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  7. I have now purchased the upgrade.

    However I am a beginner with CSS and still cannot figure out how to centre and align my header to the top of the page.

    I have managed to adjust other bits of the design using previous CSS Support threads.

  8. Hi there,
    I don't help with CSS editing but there are Volunteers and Staff who do so please hang in there. :)

  9. Thanks @timethief I would really appreciate some help.

    But also I've noticed that when I upload a full width header (using the theme dimensions) it affects how the site is viewed on a mobile device.

    Any ideas?

  10. Adelle is a responsive width theme. Responsive width means the the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles the sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading. See here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/adelle/

    You can go here > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme there.

    Staff work their way through support tickets and forum threads tagged for their attention by dealing with those that have the earliest date and timestamps first, then moving forward to deal with those that have the most recent date and time stamps. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to assist the bloggers who posted before you did.

  11. Thanks @timethief I understand responsive and that is my main reason for choosing Adelle. I think it's a fantastic design! And I am happy the sidebar shifts when on mobile to allow for content.

    However I've noticed the content only occupies 3/4 of the mobile screen width when the layout has a full header (designed to the width and height outlined by the template)

    E.g. http://wp.me/a3Gosg-1e

    I've noticed this happens with other blogs too such as jayjayne.com who you use in the template as an example of a great blog using the template:

    One good way to check to see if this is a theme issue or not would be to compare the theme's demo site from a mobile phone to see if it also does the same thing.

    I checked http://adelledemo.wordpress.com/ from my iPhone, and the theme shows up at a normal width.

    One possible problem is that you have not published any content on your blog's home page yet. Some of the WordPress.com tools and features need the blog to have at least one published thing on the home page. You can do that by adding a post or setting a static front page. Can you try publishing some content on your home page as a first troubleshooting step to see if that solves the width issue for you? Here is a related support page in case it helps:

  13. I am using the Adelle template and would really like confirmation of whether it is possible to place header image at very top of page after purchasing the upgrade.

    You can use this to get rid of the top margin on the main content container element in the Adelle theme:

    .site {
    	margin-top: 0;
    }

    That leaves a teensy bit of extra space which is coming from the container elements that are placeholders for the site title and tagline. Since you are not using a site title and tagline on http://gymnesia.com/ you can just hide the whole container element for those to get rid of the last bit of space:

    .site-header hgroup {
    	display: none;
    }

    Try adding both of those elements to your Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel to see the code in action on a live preview.

  14. YES! It works, thank you@ designsimply

    I'll have a play around with adding content and if the mobile problem persists I'll open a new ticket.

    Thanks for everyones help and advice!
