Will upgrading a theme save it even if it gets retired?

Hi! I am currently using Parament but feel it's a bit dark for my purposes (fashion blog with lots of text - I like to talk). I was thinking of either switching to a lighter theme (Adelle) or purchasing Parament's upgrade so I can play with colors.

Another option, though, is to use both themes - one for spring/summer and the other for winter/fall. This is my choice option but I wonder what would happen if either theme gets retired when it's not in use?

Should I purchase upgrades for both so I have access to them even if they get retired? Or do upgrades not work like this?

I ask this question only because a theme I'd used in the past (Connections) has since been retired. It's functional and up and running but I know if I changed it to another theme for fun, I'd lose Connections entirely since it's no longer a theme option. I don't want this to happen to my Parament blog.

Any suggestions/advice/help would be most appreciated!

The blog I need help with is ipolyenglish11.wordpress.com.

Will do, timethief! Thanks for the speedy reply.

  4. You're welcome.

Each upgrade offers exactly what it's description says. No upgrade has anything to do with retired themes.

That's not correct. On http://ipolyenglish11.wordpress.com/ you can freely switch to a different theme then switch back to Connections. At the moment at least, retired means no longer available on newly created blogs, but still available on blogs created before the theme became retired.

Oh, good to know! Thanks, justpi. But if I do switch to a practice them and decide I want to go back to Connections, where/how would I do that

And also, so you're saying I can switch between Parament and Adelle without paying for upgrades and even if one or the other is retired, I'd still be able to access either one because I'd used them already?

(Pardon the ignorance; I'm really trying my best to sort this in my head.)

Oh, ignore the first question of my last post. I played around and I see that I just type in the theme name and Connections did pop up. Excellent!

But I'd still like verification for my second question, please. Like, how long/often must I use a theme before it becomes "mine"? If I pursued my plan of using one theme for several months and the other for other months, is that enough to ensure I won't lose them if they're retired?

  8. a) Whether a retired theme is available to you doesn't depend on whether you're using it or whether you've used it in the past: as I already said, it depends on when the blog was created.
    b) Parament is a relatively new theme (launched September 2011) and Adelle is very new (launched this month): it is extremely unlikely that eitherof them will become retired in the near future.
